American Revolution

  • Treaty of Paris 1763

    A document that ended to French and Indian war. Britain takes over France's territory to the Mississippi and France no longer has power.
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    A rebellion lead by Chief Pontiac that lead Shawnees, Delawares, and other Indian tribes against the settlers.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Forbade all settlement past the Appalachian Mountains following the French and Indian War.
  • Sugar Act

    Created to lower tax so people wouldn't have to smuggle in sugar, molasses, coffee, etc.
  • Stamp Act

    Tax placed on paper products such as stamps, playing cards, letters, and newspapers to make up for the cost of the French and Indian War.
  • Writs of Assistance

    Search warrants for legal searching of property for smuggled goods.
  • Quartering Act

    Required all colonists to house British soldiers and provide them with supplies (not optional). This kept eyes/tabs on the colonists.
  • Declaratory Act

    Law stating that British government had supreme authority to govern the colonies.
  • Townshend Acts

    Taxed goods before they got to the colonies, no more meetings or assemblies in New York(until every troop is housed), and imported taxes for goods coming into the colonies(paper, glass, paint, tea).
  • Boston Massacre

    5 colonists were killed by British soldiers(open fire) for violently protesting against the soldiers.
  • Tea Act

    Stated that colonists had to buy British tea from the East India Tea Company.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists dressed like natives and threw British tea from the ships into Boston Harbor.
  • Coersive Acts

    In response to the Boston Tea Party, which caused Boston's port to be closed down until all of the tea was paid for.
  • First Continental Congress

    All of the colonies, except Georgia, sent delegates to Carpenters' Hall,Philadelphia,PA. They met to organize colonial resistance to Parliament's Coercive Acts.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    British troops were sent to confiscate colonial weapons, but ran into a militia who ended up defeating the 700 British soldiers gaining victory.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    This was a battle that the British won, but the colonists felt like they won, because they fought against British troops and left a great deal of them injured/dead, with a whole lot of their men still standing.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    This was a petition that appealed to King George III that gave him one last chance to make peace between the colonies and Britain.
  • Common Sense

    This was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine about arguments in favor of American independence.
  • Battle of Trenton

    A brief battle between American forces and Hessian soldiers, which was won by the American forces of 2,400 to 1,400.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    British and Hessian troops surrendered their arms, giving a victory to the Americans. Turning point of the Revolutionary War.
