American Revolution

  • The Sugar Act

    This act lowered the tax on molasses, hoping the colonists would pay the tax instead of smuggling. This act was another violation the colonists did not like.
  • The Stamp Act

    This act was passed the the British to tax almost all printed goods. It was a stamp that got put on the goods after the tax was paid.
  • The Sons of Liberty had Formed

    The leader of the Sons of Liberty was Samuel Adams. Paul Revere, John Hancock, and Joseph Warren also took part. They organized some of the famous events throught the American Revolution.
  • The Stamp Act Was Repealed

    The Stamp Act was repealed because of the boycotts of the Americans. The British merchants lost a lot of business so they asked Parliament to cancel the act.
  • The Writs of Assistance

    This was passed when lots of people smuggled goods and got away with it without paying taxes. This document allowed officers to enter locations and search for smuggled goods.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts would only tax glass, tea, and paper. This act angered them so they continued to boycott goods and made their own goods. Later only the tax on tea remained.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a fight between colonists from Boston and the British soldiers when the people of Boston started to protest. Once one of the soldiers were knocked down, they started to fire and killed five colonists and injured others. This is the first event where Americans were killed.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act was a law made in attempt to help the East India Company. The East India company makes tea and is owned by the British. They passed this act made it a tea monopoly.
  • The Returning of the East India Ships

    The colonists wanted the tea sent back to Europe, but someone wouldn't let them. This lead up to the Boston Tea Party.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea party was caused because of the Tea Act. A group of men snuck onto a ship of tea and threw it into the ocean. It was tea from the East India Company.
  • The Coercive Acts

    The Coercive Acts were made to punish the people of Massachusetts for their resistance. The act closed the harbor until they paid for the tea they had ruined from the Boston Tea Party, took away rights, and forced the people of Boston to shelter British soldiers in their homes.
  • The Continental Congress forms in Philadelphia

    55 delegates from all over the colonies traveled to Philadelphia. They created an organization called the Continental Congress.
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord

    The British and Americans had a fight. The Americans were prepared and 73 British were dead and 174 wounded. Here was the shot heard 'round the world.
  • Fort Ticonderoga Was Conquered

    Fort Ticonderoga was located on Lake Champlain to where it was located strategically, and held lots of supplies. There was a surprise attack on the British and the fort surrendered.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The British was won the Battle of Bunker Hill because of the Americans running out of gunpowder, but 1,000 were dead or wounded. One famous line is "Men, don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes".
  • Common Sense by Thomas Paine was published

    Common Sense was written to get the fighting spirit and hatred to the British govenment high. He used it to convince the patriots to fight.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    Written by Thomas Jefferson, it declared America was not a part of Britain anymore. George Washington could not sign the document because he was being busy leading the Continental Army. The three unalienable rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The French supported the colonists after this battle. General Burgoyne was a Brithish general and surrended in Saratoga, New York.
  • Valley Forge

    George Washington had set up camp here in the winter.
  • Battle of Trenton

    The Battle of Treton was won by the Patriots using the element of surprise.George Washington was the leader, and John Sullivan helped. Johann Rall was a colonel for the Hessans.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    The Americans had gotten help from the French and made the Brithish surrender. The French Navy had blocked the British from behind while the Americans came from the front. The British General Cornwallis was kept from escaping. After this battle, Britain reconized that America was an independent nation.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was signed and afterwards America was independent from Britain.
