  • 1754-1763 French and Indian War

    The French lose the war and give up their land in America. Britian spends so much money they create taxes on colonists to make up for loss.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Colonists were not allowed to move west of the Appalachian Mountains as Britain had reserved that area for the Indians.

    One of the taxes passed by Parliament to raise revenue.
  • The Stamp Act

    Another tax passed by Parliament to pay down the national debt after defeating France.
  • The Quartering Act

    British Parliament passed this act requiring colonial governments to provide and pay for feeding and sheltering any troops in their colony.
  • The Tea Act

    This act was intended to help the East India Company by shipping tea directly to the colonies but it hurts local merchants.

    George Louis LeSage patents the electric telegraph. It is studied and lays the groundwork for future communication.
