    In 1619 about 20 slaves were bought in exchange for food on an English ship called the White Lion. Some of them were transported to Jamestown.

    In 1676 Nathanial Bacon, a wealthy land owner, rallyied together the common folk of Virginia in order to rebel because the poor people were being mistreated. The rebelion ended when Bacon himself died of a disease.

    Mass Expansion Of Slavery in Colonies

    During the 1680's there was a large expansion on African Slaves as the slave codes were passed. The Slave Codes were a set of laws that stated that Africans and their children would now be property of their masters for life.

    In 1692 a series of prosecutions were led against women who were accused of whitch craft because people were getting sick all of a sudden in the colonies. The reason specific women were accused was because they had gained power after inheriting their husbands property.
  • Stonon Rebellion

    Stonon Rebellion
    In 1739 a group of 20 slaves had escaped and attempted to march towards Spanish Florida along the Stonon River. They were quickly stopped by the militia. This revolt later led to the establishment of harsher laws on slaves as they had proven that they could organize themselves and fight back.
