This act prohibited the colonists from moving west of the Appalaican mountains. This law was set because the king wanted to limit western expanion and stop colonists from settling on the native American lands. The colonists were angry and started to speak out trying to break free of this act. They did this because they all wanted more land and wanted to be free of the British crown. -
This act was a modification on the tax for sugar and molaleses. This act was issued to grow the intake of sugar and for the growth of profit in the colonies. They were livid and started protests. There started to be smuggled sugar throughout the colonies. The colonists were upset that they had to pay more for sugar. -
This act prohibited the colonists from printing paper money. This was created to stabilize and balance out the colonies economy. The colonists were very irritated that this happened. They felt that way because they all relied on paper money and that had been taken away from them. -
This act was made to help pay for the British troops stationed in the colonies during the seven years war. They did this to give money to troops and money for gear. The colonists reacted to this act with violent protests. They reacted this way because they were forced to pay a tax they had no say in and did not agree to. -
This act punished desertion and gave better payment to the army troops in the war. This happened because they wanted the army and their quarters to be payed a better payment. The colonists resented and opposed this act because they were being taxed for an army they didn't want and did not think could win the war. -
This act was made to cease the opinions of the structured rules of the colonies. They (the gov.) wanted to smother the differences for the establishment of an undeniable principle. The colonists were livid and outraged. They reacted this way because they knew that more acts were coming just lke this one. -
This act placed duties on paper, paint, led, tea and glass. This happened because all of these items had to be imported since, the colonies did not have the ability to manufacture them. The colonists had no objection or arguments since these taxes were external and not internal taxes. -
Several young colonists and Hugh White started messing around and that soon transitioned to violence. Hugh shot a boy with his gun and soon after he was surrounded by colonists calling him names, and throwing objects at him. Bells rung and colonists flooded out into town and started to fire and disaster had then struck. -
This act reduced taxes on imported British tea. This act was issued for reasoning such as there was too much money being spent on tea. The colonists boycotted and condemned the act and they did this because the British now had an unfair advantage in selling their tea in America. -
On a late night in March the sons of liberty came together to pour cartons of tea into the ocean. They all dressed up as Native Americans and jumped multiple ships with tea in them. In the middle of the night some men tried to come and take tea for themselves. The sons of liberty stopped that immediately. This was an anonymous event. Nobody said anything. -
This suppressed unrest in colonial Boston by closing the port and putting it under martial law. This was to hamper unrest by dislocation. The colonists boycotted this act. They did that because they were infuriated that the port was being closed. -
As the troops arrived at concord they were preparing for war, minute men were getting ready to fire on notice. Minute men were the men that stayed in their clothes to fight. General Gage was on the Brtish side trying to take away the patriots weapons. -
This war was to prevent British soldiers from attacking on the countryside after the march to Lexington. The Americans meant to go to bunker hill but went somewhere else, Breeds hill. Abigail Adams, a soon first lady was watching her husband in the war by rooftop like many other viewers. -
The Declaration was made to the world, the colonists and the king. It read that the Americans were officially done with the kings unfair choice of rule. They have tried to plead and be kind to the king but he has only hurt them more. They have now gained independence from Britain. -
This was led by George Washington against the germans. America won and captured over 900 germans. Twenty two germans died and no US soldiers died and few US soldiers were wounded and captured. This battle made the US want to continue fighting because they all felt stronger as a united army. -
In this battle the Americans were led by Hortiao Gates and Benedict Arnold. America won as they were looking to gain the land of the Hudson River Valley. America lost around 600 but they still outnumbered the enemy. US won and they were so brave to keep fighting for freedom. -
In this battle the US had around 12000 soldiers. George Washington (soon to be president) was the US commander. The trainer of the US soldiers was Baron Fredrich Wilhelm Von Stuben. The British general was William Howe. There was a training camp at valley forge for US continentals. British general William Howe retreated from the army after four days. America won against the British. The continentals never lost confidence. -
The battle of Yorktown was a very important part of the US independence. Some very important people, Major general Lafayette, General Washington, General Arnold, and Lieutenant Hamilton. This was the last battle in the revolutionary war because the US beat the british with the help of General Washington. -
Throughout 1783 to 1888 the fight to end slavery was rapidly becoming what more U.S citizens wanted. This relates to Nationalism because when the abolitionists get what they want then it will effect the entire country and the Souths norms will change drastically.

This was a treaty that was made in Paris to conclude conflict between the 13 colonies and Britain. It also established boundaries and fishing rights for the Americans. This all made it clear to the world that America was independent. This treaty ended the revolutionary war. -
The United States bought Louisiana territory, and doubled in size. Thomas Jefferson wanted to map the land so he sent Louis and Clark (two explores) to expedite his plans. This is the Corps of Discovery. Soon after, Missouri was sending out settlers to traverse into Oregon territory. This is the Oregon trail. In 1848 gold was discovered in California. Settlers swarmed California which is the California gold rush. This was Nationalism because expansion was happening throughout the entire country.

The 3/5 Compromise was made to settle dispute over whether people thought enslaved people should be counted for votes. Since the North had a much smaller enslaved population than the south, instead of having them count as whole people they would all individually be counted 3/5 a person. This also meant that no new slaves brought in after 1808. This is Nationalism. The entire country was considered during this event by making it fair to the North by not having an overpopulation in the South. -
Since the country needed to pay back the debt from the militia, George Washington put a tax on whiskey and the people that produced whiskey were mad because the amount of sales on whiskey skyrocketed down and they lost lots of money so they retaliated by fighting and burning down houses of officials. -
In 1791, the tenth amendment is passed. "The powers not delegated to the united states by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states are reserved to the states respectively, by the states or the people." This is sectionalism because the powers not in the constitution, go to the states and are reserved by them. -
France was starting to attack American ships just like how England had once done. President Adams sent three men to negotiate peace to figure out the issue. The french minister would simply not meet with them so he sent three representatives to meet (known as X,Y and Z). They demanded money from the Americans and the Americans were insulted. Federalists wanted war and they also wanted to be respected by the Europeans. -
Americans were worried about the Europeans living in America so they passed these unconstitutional acts: the Alien act was saying that the president could imprison or deport anyone who he felt suspicious over and was not a US citizen. The Sedition act said that it was a crime to speak or publish any false or dangerous criticism of the Us government. -
The DRs (democratic republicans or anti-federals) thought that the alien and sedition acts were outrageous so they decided to do something about it. They also thought it was an abuse of power. They thought they were unconstitutional because freedom of speech is the first amendment in the Constitution and it states you do not have the freedom to say what you want about the government. They challenged the federal government by making their own laws. -
The U.S government set an act stating that a certain item will not be available for trade. Thomas Jefferson put out this act with the congress. This act also stated that all ships going out of the U.S shall not be able to trade. European allies that traded with the U.S were not happy with this act because they could not get this item anymore. After many complaints, a repeal on this act was help in 1809. -
From 1810 to 1850 a thread of abolitionists led 100,000 enslaved people down a safe route to their freedom. They would take breaks at safe houses and would only travel in the night. This is considered as sectionalism. This only concerned the South because in the North there were no enslaved people. The enslaved people in the South were trying to get to the North.

The U.S has done many things to try and prevent a war. They have sent 3 men to negotiate with the french but they only met us with disrespect, they have passed the embargo act to stop trade with France and try and keep the U.S safe and they have passed the Alien and Sedition acts to keep out French people and their opinions. None of these have worked and so the U.S demands respect by declaring war and fighting the British. This helped gain authority and respect from European neighbors. -
This was an event based on the fabrication of the national bank. The court decided that only the federal government had the power to create a national bank and the state government did not. -
The Missouri Compromise was made in order to decide if Missouri and Maine would be free or slave states. A future problem with this compromise would be how to decide how the rest of the Louisiana Purchase land would be settled. The line of the compromise is 36° 30'N. This event is an example of Sectionalism. This divides the nation up into the North and South and causes arguments regarding slave states vs. free states. -
The Monroe Doctrine was issued by U.S president James Monroe. It states that the Western Hemisphere was no longer open to European colonization. It also stated that the U.S would not interfere with international affairs between or in the European countries. -
In 1831 enslaved rebels decided to rebel by killing fifty five to sixty white people. This was the bloodiest rebellion is U.S history. This occurred in Southhampton County, Virginia. This relates to sectionalism because it is affecting the south and the enslaved southern people. It might change the way the slave owners view their enslaved people. -
In 1850, the problem is that California is free state, U.S adds Mexican cession. Texas receives ten million and ends the border dispute. Washington DC banned slave trade. This is Nationalism because it concerns the entire country and is focusing on the Nation and how to keep it connected. -
In 1850, if enslaved people tried to run, they would be seen as fugitives. If someone found an enslaved person on the run, even in a free state, they would be required to return them to their owners. This law also made the national government accountable for looking for, finding and returning the slaves to their owners. This relates to Nationalism because it differentiates the free and slave states but coerces the free states to abide to the national slave law that they would not want to follow. -
In 1860 eleven U.S states left the nation because they still wanted slavery, following Abraham Lincolns election. This was the cause for the Civil War. This was Nationalism because the entire nation was affected by losing 11 states. -
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln produced the Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War that freed all of the enslaved people in the U.S. This is an example of Nationalism because it brings all of the people and states in the U.S together after a long and very bloody war and binds the nation by ensuring that people shall be treated fairly and are made equal. The purpose of the Proclamation was to bring the North and South together and not separate them into two halves.
