French and Indian war
It was a war over the Ohio river valley between great Britain and France. The British had won. Paying off the war costed a lot of money and it led to colonial discontent.The discontent built up to cause more confrontation later on. -
Proclamation Line
It was a written document by king George the third that stopped settlers from crossing over the Appalachian mountains to prevent fights between natives and settlers. It had upset the settlers because they wanted land and they felt like it was the British trying to continue to control them. This also contributed to their dislike towards the British. -
Boston Massacre
A violent confrontation between the Colonists and the British. The colonists threw sticks and snowballs and had clubs. The British fired. It caused propaganda and made people pick sides. There were news articles calling different things based on a bias. -
Boston Tea Party
England taxed tea and it caused the colonists to throw tons of tea into the Boston harbor in rebellion because they were beyond infuriated. 92,000 pounds of tea went into the harbor. The British shut down the harbor until all the tea was paid for. It contributed to the tension between Britain and America. -
Intolerable Acts
As a result of the Boston tea party, the British passed laws meant to hold the Americans accountable for their bold actions. The colonists called them the intolerable acts because they refused to tolerate them. They felt it violated their rights. Most colonists didn't listen to the rules. They were important because they caused more tension between the two parties. -
Lexington & Concord
The British set out to capture two rebel leaders in Lexington and to steal and destroy their weapons that they heard was in concord. They ended up fighting and by comparison less Americans had died than the British. It was an event that contributed to the future war. -
Declaration of Independence
It was a document stating that the colonists wanted independence from Britain. It basically just said that they were leaving whether the British liked it or not because their rights had been violated. It caused the war.
