Although the situation in Europe was already tense the spark of the War was the assasination of the heir of Austria-Hungary. -
The Sinking of the Lusitania
The Lusitania, the sister ship of the Titanic, was the pride of the British navey. It was the fastest ship at the time and like the Titanic was 'unsinkable'. But on a sunny morning on May 7th, 1915 the ship was hit by a German torpedo and sank in under 20 minutes killing most of it's passengers, which had an abnormally high number of women and children and U.S. citizens. -
Zimmerman Note
On Janurary 19th, 1917 the United States intercepted a note between Germany and Mexico. Germany was propsing that Mexico would join the war if the United States did and they would attack. They were warned of unrestricted submarine warfare would start again. In return the German's would give Mexico the southern part of the United States. This was the last straw before the U.S. joined the war. -
Unrestricted Submarine Warefare
Early in the year 1917 the German's announced unrestricted submarie warefare. Warning everyone in the North Atlantic ocean would be torpedoed down. -
The U.S. Joins the War
The United States declares war on Germany after intercepting the Zimmerman Note. -
The Germans Surrender!
The British, United States, and French alliance wins WWI on November 11th, 1918.
