American Colonies Timeline

  • Seven Years War

    The colonists went to war with Britian to try and gain independance. They were fed up with all the taxes, soldiers, and rediculous laws that britian tried to put in place.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    -colonial administration spread thin
    -provide time to establish better relationship with Native Americans and French
    -ignore, move to western territory
    -they fought and died in war; they deserve this new territory
    -American colonist had already begun to settle areas to the west of the Appalachians
  • Stamp Act

    -Taxes on all printed materials
    -everyone intending to sell articles that are printed must have a stamp
    -ignored the new rules
    -still smuggled papers and other printed materials
    -boycotted british
  • Boston tea party

    The Tea act prevented the colonists from buying and selling tea without being taxed. They got to the point where they would not let any trade ships come near. They allowed 3 british trade ships into the boston harbor during the time that all ships were not. The Bostonians dressed as native americans and raided the ships. They dumped 342 chests of tea overboard and into the boston harbor.
  • intolerable act

    The intolerable acts were a serious of laws Britain passed to punish colonists after the Boston Tea Party. This included the Coercive act where only food and firewood were allowed into the port and town meetings were banned.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Britain's general Gage sent out regiments of British soldiers to head towards Lexington where they were to capture Sam Adams and John Hancock and then they were to head to Concord where they would take gunpowder and weapons. Although the militia's were originally created to defend from civil unrest and attacks by French or Native Americans they defended against the British. These battles pushed the British and Americans farther apart so neither side knew what to expect next.
  • State of Rebellion

    The state of rebellion basically made the colonists realize that they needed to be independent because the relationship between britain and the colonies wasn't working.
