    As the French Empire expanded it collided with the growing British Empire.From the started these colonies differed in many ways. One major area of contention btween France and Britain was the rich Ohio River. In 1754 the french built fort duquesne in the region dispite the fact that Virginia had already granted land to the welathly planters. They then sent milita over to evict the French and there started the war between France and Great Britain over North America.

    Proclamation of 1763 dampened the celbration from the colonists win the the French Indian war. It stated in effect, closed off the frontier to colonial expansion. The King and his council presented the proclamation as a measure to calm the fears of the Indians, who felt that the colonists would drive them from their lands as they expanded westward.

    Paraliment passed this act that imposed a tax on documents and printed items such as newpapers and playing cards. This stamp proved that the tax had been paid. This is the first tax that directly affected the colonists. In May of that year the colonists united to defy the law in which the created a secret resistance group called the Sons of Liberty.

    Paraliment passed this act which was named after Charles Townshend, the leading government minister. This act taxed goods thta were imported into the colony from Britian, such as lead,glass and paint. The acts also imposed a tax on tea, the most popular drink in the colonies.

    A mob gathered in front of the Boston Customs House and taunted the British soliders standing guard there. Shots were fired five colonists were killed including Crispuis Attucks.

This would have cut colonial merchants out of the tea trade by selling the tea directly to the colonial consumers.

    Paul Revere, william Dawes and samuel prescott rode out a spread the word that 700 british tropps were going to concord to steal illegilized weapons. When the british got to lexing5ton about five miles short opf concord. colonist men were drwn up in lines in front of them. Somone fired and 8 minutemen( colonists) were killed and ten injuried and on british soldier was injuired. The battle lasted only 15 minutes.

    Written By Thomas Paine he attackts king george and his monachchy in this 50 page pamplet. Paine who was a recent immigrant explained that his own revolt started with lexington and concord. Paine declared that independence would allow America to trade more freely. This book sold nearly 500,000 copies and was widely appreciated.
