    The day the three Cantons (Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden united to defend the peace in the country after there emperor died. There uninon came together and created the Federal Charter, the Federal Charter gave the country Freedom. Ever since the beginning the document is seen as the founding document of the confederacy. Once it Was created it annouced that Switzerland was a country at last.

    The Hundred Years War was a series of connected conflicts between England and France over claims to the French throne and control of land in France. It ran from 1337 to 1453. The result was a damaged country and economy. This war led to the Monarchy that later rules France.

    The Holy Roman Empire held Switzerland in its grasp for over 100 years, however the Treaty of Westphalia was a series of treaties that ended the thirty years war and the hold on the three catons (Switzerland). After the signing of the document the country was given full freedom and indepence in the free world.

France went from a state under a monarch, through the French Revolution to a republic which ended the reign of the king and then to an empire under Napoleon Bonaparte the new emperor. The results of this war were that France was politically altered and a social structure was changed.

As a result of the instatbility of the constitutional monarchy the National Convention was charged with the task of draftiing a new constitution. This resulted in the establishment of an early type of republic. The current government type in France is a republic and has branches of government much like the United States.

That led to the country to proclaim the Helvetic Republic and create a centrally located government (instead of self-governing Cantons)

In 1916-1917 the British Navy caused a severe shortage in big cities by imposing a tight blockade. This blockade casued the Turnip Winter. The German Empire fell at the end of World War I forming the unified country as we know today to be Germany.

As a result of the war 59 million troops had been mobilized, over 8 million died and over 29 million were injured. Also the culture of every European country was deeply affected.

    The Holocaust/World War II would have to be the biggest event in German history besides their Independence. Germany turned into Nazi Germany with Adolph Hitler as their ruler/dictator. With Hitler as their leader, he ordered his soldiers to eliminate all jews and a few years later in 1939 Germany invaded Poland and after Hitler decided not to abort his invasion, France and Britain delcared war on him. These events casued the near extinction of the Jewish people, and also split Berlin.

    France declared war on Nazi Germany in September 1939 then in May 1940 the Germany attacked France, quickly defeating the country. France ccupation followed, with the northern third controlled by Germany and the south under the Vichy regime. In 1944 France was liberated, and Germany finally defeated in 1945. Results of the war were a weakened country. A fourth republic was then declared.

    After World War II West Germany, France, Italy, and the Benelux countries (Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Belgium) signed the treaty of Paris in 1951 which caused the formation of the European Coal and Steel Community. This was able to take over the International Authority for the Ruhr and resulted in elimination of some restrictions on Germany's insdustrial productivity.

    On January 8, 1959 the Fifth Republic of France was created. Charles de Gaulle, who was a heavy critic of the Fourth Republic, was the major force behind the new constitution. It gave the president more powers compared to the National Assembly; de Gaulle became the first president of the new era. France remains to this day under the government of the Fifth Republic. The 5th republic allowed for direct election of the President.

    On January 1st, 1999 Germany adopted the Euro. The Euro was able to allow the countries in the European Union to create more trade and establish a strong international presence. It is second compared to the U.S. dollar. It is also used to create more wealth and safety for investments.

    When the European debt crisis happened in early 2009, Germany played a big role in solving the problem. With Greece being the most financially unstable out of the European Union countries, Germany had to play big brother and help them out by lending money. The European debt crisis caused the value of the euro to decerease ruining some people jobs and causing Europe to go into a recession until 2011/2012 when Germany finally ended it.

    The last French hostage Serge Lazarevic returns home after 3 years of capture in the hands of Islamic militants. Several Islamic prisoners were released in exchange for his release. I feel this will have lasting importance on France because I think the nations patriotism will rise. Also i feel like the country will seek revenge on the Islamic militants which could change the country.
