    As the Switchboard Secretary my technology still consisted of the TYPEWRITER (which was at the end of its era), a multi-line Mitel phone, and my new Dell computer.

    Began learning different systems for processing payroll (called IPay), working with school budget lines, and purchasing goods.

    Became Curious About Data Processor's Duties
    Developed a relationship with data processor and began asking questions about what she did on a daily basis. I was very interested in the technical aspect of her job and asked if she could teach me. She was more than excited as she had planned to retire soon.

    Worked on Bachelor of Arts degree @ Alverno College

    Decided that I couldn't continue to tell my daughter that she was headed to college without showing her that I was capable of doing the same first. I attended Alverno's Weekend College full-time and learned many amazing things. Although my major was Business & Management I fell in love with my minor which was Professional Communication and for a short time I thought about switching my major for my minor. I learned graphic design, web design, computer coding, etc. I had fun!

    Promoted to Data Processor

    Because I was trained and worked so closely by the person that I was replacing, I received a promotion without even officially interviewing. As the school data processor I was the "gate keeper" of student and staff data. I created Ad-Hoc reports, State-Aid reports, graduation rates data for district-level staff, board members, and the community. I also became the guru for solving technical problems with the teacher/student system (eSIS). I programmed 1,000 yearly and created teacher assignments.

    Promoted to Head Secretary/Dual Role as Data Processor

    Because I had been groomed over the years by the head secretary the principal thought that I was naturally a great fit for the position (and let's be honest he was saving a big chunk in his budget in health benefits for an additional person)! I had my own office for data processing duties and operated the daily functions within the office. I supervised four secretaries directly and the para professional staff, processed payroll for 100 staff members, and monitored a million dollar budget.

    Promoted to Office of Innovation
    After years of dedication, I finally was promoted to work at Central Services . I have been working in an administrative capacity for the Chief of Innovation & Information. Many initiatives like Telepresence are started in my office.Students engage in courses daily with teachers and classmates located at other high schools through advanced video conferencing tools, courses like: AP Spanish Language, AP Calculus, AP World History, AP Macro/Microeconomics, and AP Gov't (mps.milwaukee.k12.wi.us).
