  • Introduction to Inclusion

    1. Survey faculty on what they know and how they feel about inclusion. 2. Review school data regarding inclusion rates.
    2. Provide information on inclusion. 4. Describe what inclusion looks like when successfully implemented. 5. Emphasize the shared ownership of ALL students. 6. Explain school improvement plan to increase inclusion rate. 7. Get all teachers on board. 8. Inclusion IS A GOOD THING!
  • Form a Team

    Form a Team
    1. Include at least one member from each grade level
    2. Combination of General Education and ESE teachers
    3. Team will take part in examining service delivery model, analyzing data, soliciting faculty suggestions (guided themes), engaging faculty to promote inclusion implementation, and problem-solving challenges and barriers that may arise.

    (4 week span)
    1. Create an LRE continuum that includes the number and percentage of students with disabilities attending our school that are served across the points of the continuum.
    2. Review current student placement to determine if they are in the LRE.
    3. Determine if these students can transition into GenEd with supports.

    4. Decide what resources are needed for them to be successful.

    1. Review the data collected to determine the number/percentage of students that will be transitioned into inclusion.

    2. Determine placement.
    3. Schedule time for IEP meetings to be held to discuss the transition into inclusion.

    1. With the team, discuss ideas to implement the transition to inclusion (by grade level, class, etc.).
    2. Determine what is needed per grade level to implement inclusion transition.
    3. Discuss faculty concerns and suggestions
    4. Discuss/determine how will these concerns be addressed.

    1. Report the results of the data analysis
    2. Meet with grade levels to determine the levels of support and additional resources that will be necessary for transition.
    3. Promote positive position of inclusive educational practice for all students.
    4. Assign staff into teams based on grade level (general education, ESE teachers, paras, etc.)
    5. Create a schedule for mutual collaborative planning time per grade level.
    6. Address faculty concerns.

    1. Schedule IEP meetings by grade level
    2. Ensure that faculty members that will be servicing students participate in the IEP meeting.
    3. Promote the positive position of inclusion to the parents and students.

    1. Monitor the transition process and determine where adjustments need to be made.

    2. Provide teachers with feedback and create a list of topics/areas of need that will be addressed in future professional development sessions.

    1. Create revised student schedules to align to the general education schedule.
    2. Determine when related services will be administered (speech, PT, OT)
    3. Revise para/support staff schedules to ensure student supervision and duty free lunch breaks.
    4. Revise student ISIS placement coding.
