  • Proclamation

    Proclamation

    The Proclamation Line was a British produces boundary in the Appalachian Mountains. This line prohibited Anglo-American colonists from settling on lands that are acquired from the French and Indian War. Because of this, the Colonists thought that this was all a plot to keep them under the power and control of England. They rebelled against the British and worked together to prevent these new laws from being enforced.

    Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was also called the Plantation Act and the Revenue Act helped reduce the rate of tax molasses. This act also caused more foreign goods such as sugar, wine, and coffee to be taxed. This caused an immediate decline in the rum industry. Colonists started to protest against this act. Many made the argument of "No taxation Without representation" and others would refuse to invest in any English goods.

    Currency Act

    The Currency Act was issued to control colonial currency, the act prohibited the issue of any new bills and the reissue of existing currency. Colonists quickly started to be against this and began to protest. They stated that since they were already suffering to trade with Great Britain this would only make the situation worse for them.

    The Stamp Act required colonists to pay tax on anything to do with paper. This was a direct tax imposed by the British government that allowed them to gain money since they were in great debt. By taxing the colonist it allowed them to hold power and gain money from them. The colonist obviously did not like this and started to act on "No taxation without representation". They felt like their rights were violated and should be able to only be taxed by their representative.

    The Quartering Act was issued to help amend and render more effectual in the king's dominions in America. This act helped increase Empire defense costs in America following the French and Indian War and Potiac's War. American colonists were enraged over this act and brought up "The Intolerable Act". Some would refuse to cooperate and rebelled against this act.

    The Declaratory Act was a repeal of the Stamp Act, which stated that the British Parliament's taxing authority was the same in America as in Great Britain. Which meant that the Parliament could make laws binding the American colonies. Colonists felt threatened but not much was acted upon. Most of the colonists just wait anxiously.

    The Townshend Acts were many different acts that were put together to help pay for the expenses involed in governing the American colonies. This act was passed by the Parliament which initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, and tea. The American colonists protested and refused to buy any British imports.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a very deadly and cruel riot that began as a street brawl between American colonists and a single British soldier. This riot quickly escalated to a horrible and chaotic bloody slaughter. This incident later was one of the things that caused the Revolutionary War and then later the American Revolution. Colonists were furious about the many deaths that were acquired and the many family members that were lost.

    The Boston Tea Party was an incident which 342 chests of tea that were owned by the British were thrown off the ships into Boston Harbor. This was done by American patriots that were disguised as Mohawk Indians. These Americans were protesting tax and tea which was another name for "Taxation without Representation". Colonists responded with more protests and resistance and later on petitioned Britain to repeal the Intolerance Acts.

    Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts)

    The Intolerable Acts were a set of four laws passed by the British Parliament to punish the colony of Massachussets Bay for the Boston Tea Party. these four acts were: The Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act. Colonists united together and formed the First Continental Congress to discuss a better approach.

    Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act allowed British soldiers to be housed in American barracks and public houses. If these areas were to full they would be sent out to inns, alehouses, barns, and many other buildings. Colonists resented this act because some colonists were not able to house many soldiers and felt like it would only get worse.

    The Quebec Act was made by the British Parliemt was made to deal with major questions that were made during the attempt to make the French colony of Canada. French Speekingsettlers of the province gave the Catholics the ability to acquire good jobs in the government which allowed them to gave higher power. Colonists viewed this as a direct threat to their government ad their freedom.
