    “Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of stupidity." White racism was so filled with their ego that they did not realize what mindless actions they were committing in order for their limited success.
  • Executive Order 8802

    It opened national defense jobs and other government jobs to all Americans regardless of race, creed, color, or national origin. This allowed anyone of any color to have jobs in higher places of power. With higher power, came more representation. Not everyone was happy with it.
  • Dallas Building Bombing

    4 buildings were blown up with dynamites, no one injured but it reassured colored people that the end is not anytime soon.
  • Brown Vs. Board of Education

    Brown Vs. Board of Education
    It removed the idea of “Separate but equal” in public education. Which meant black students could get the same education as white students in the same building.

    C.B. Bunkley Jr and Frank W Philips, both black ran for seats on the school board. It gave notice that black communities in Dallas wanted everything black communities wanted anywhere in america

  • The Freedom Riders of 1961

    The Freedom Riders of 1961
    Freedom Riders were groups of white and African American civil rights activists who participated in Freedom Rides, bus trips through the American South in 1961 to protest segregated bus terminals. It made an impact because it showed their determination.
  • Dallas School Desegregation

    In spite of racism, in Dallas schools were desegregated, it was equality for colored students. This was a big move for Civil Rights.
  • St. Augustine Movement

    The St. Augustine movement was a chain of civil rights protests where protesters were met with violent attacks from white segregationists. This movement was triggered by people wanting to end racial discrimination and events such as the arrest of Mary Peabody. The movement involved several important figures like Martin Luther King, and Dr. Robert Hayling. This affected the lives of African Americans because it influenced the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • Public Law 88-352

    Congress passed Public Law 88-352. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination to target race, color, religion, sex or national origin. While this didn't eliminate all of discrimination, it was a huge step in the right direction.
  • Malcolm X

    Malcolm X was a civil rights activist who was a spokesman for the Nation of Islam part of the black community, who broke apart from the Nation of Islam in 1963 due to him feeling their religious rigids went too far. This angered the nation of Islam which led up to the assassination of Malcolm X.
  • Robert F. Kennedy

    Robert F Kennedy was assassinated. This had a major impact on people because he proposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
