    They kidnnaped 20 people from a Philiphine resort for ransom. Only one was freed in June 2002. The picture is taken from a video of the group making there demands. These are just two of the hostages.

    The terrorist group attacked a ferry sailing in Manila's waters. The attack killed 116 people. All together there were about 900 people an the ferry. The picture shows the destroyed ferry and the rescue and clean up operations.

    Top Leader Killed
    Senior leader Jemaah Islamiyah and thirteen others were killed in an airstrike by the Philippine air force. The airstrike took place in Sulu province. Also killed in the attack was one of the most wanted terrorist linked to al Qaeda, Zukkifli bin Hir.     Sayyaf ambused the Tumahubong Agrarian Reform Benificiaries Intergated Development Coop. Inc.(TARBIDCI). In the attack four were killed and seven were wounded.     This attack occured in Sapah bulak village in Basinan. It resulted in one death and 36 injured. The attack is believed to be a resulted of the cooeratives refusal to agree to Abu Sayyafs extortion demands.     It was an attack on the Candiis Detachment in Basilan. They were repelled by a special forces team. None of the troops stationed there were injured or killed. This was the fith time the Abu Sayyaf had attacked the detachment since July. The picture shows a group of fighters on patrol in the jungle.
