    Exposition
    The beginning of the story shows that it takes place many years in the future and there are time machines. The sign in the beginning of the story shows that there will be hunting involved and the story will have animals from the past
  • Rising Action

    Rising Action
    Eckels, the main character is introduced and he decides he wants to hunt a t-rex. He pays his fees then enters the time machine along with his guide. The guide has to tell him what to shoot and moniter him. Eckels had several questions and the guide explained why they had to be so careful. He made it very clear that if anyone stepped off of the path even just on to grass, there could be huge consequences for the present. They see the dinosaur they are permitted to hunt, but it is a lot more mass
  • Rising Action (Continued)

    Rising Action (Continued)
    After the expert explains why they cannot step off the path, they see the dinosaur they are permitted to hunt. It ends up being a lot more fierce and massive than they could have imagined and they begin to question if they should be there. Then, they start to shoot it anyways.
  • Climax

    Climax
    Once they start shooting the dinosaur, Eckels decides to step off the path even though he is not aloud to. He only goes onto the grass, but then back into the time machine. The guide is enraged that Eckels would do such a thing and wants to kill him and leave him in the past
  • Falling Action

    Falling Action
    They get into the time machine and people are defending Eckels, but the guide is still mad. They arrive back in the present and everything appears the same, but still feels different. He goes outside and sees that the sign is spelled differently and a dead butterfly is on the bottom of his shoe
  • Resolution

    Resolution
    Eckels is upset over what he caused when he sees a dead butterfly on the bottom of his shoe and realizes that him stepping on one butterfly in the past had this big of an effect on the future. He asks who won the elction, and much to his dismay it is not the same person as before he went back in time. He is then shot by the guide as punishment for what he did.
