    On brink of nuclear war - show of power between US and SU. Superpowers

  • France leaves NATO

    France protects independence and autonomy (Gained atomic bomb in 1960).

  • Albania leaves the Warsaw Pact

    Responding to invasion of Czechoslovakia, weakens Warsaw Pact

  • Invasion of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact forces

    Warsaw continues to becomes a political tool of the SU for repression.

  • Spain joins NATO

    Addition of European support.
