    When Mia was 12, she had to move to Wichita Falls, Texas. Mia used soccer to make new friends. Wheverever she had to move, she joined a team to meet new people.
  • Invatation to Team USA

    In 1986. mia competed in an all-star-tournament. john Cossaboon (the head of the national develpoment team) was at this event, looking to recruit players.Once he saw Mia, his eyes did'nt leave her. Cossaboon told Anson Dorance to come and watch Mia play. Dorrance asked Mia after the game to come and tryout for Team USA.

    In 1996 Team USA won an Olympic Gold Medal.In the game against China, 76,000 people attended the game. In the first half, the game was a 1-1 tie. but in the 2nd half, the US came out strong and won 2-1. Team USA had just won their first gold medal.
  • Garrett Dies

    A couple years before the 1996 Olympics, Mia's brother Garrett was diagnosed with the rare blood disease, aplastic amneia. In 1990, doctors told Garrett that he would need a bone marrow trasplant. But, because he was adopted, there was no matched donor. In 1997 Garret finally got the transplant. Just after the Hamm family thought Garrett was going into remission, he got a serious infection and died.
