Germany invades Czechoslovakia
On this date Germany took over Czechoslovakia, taking full control of the nation. In the efforts to avoid war a lot of European countries made an agreement called the Munich Pact. Hitler made an agreement with Czech President Emil Hacha, that if he doesn't give him part of the country than he will bomb it. Hacha agreed and Hitler got part of Czechoslovakia, and eventually all of it. -
The Nazi-Soviet Pact
This pact meant that Germany and the Soviet Union would not attack each other. Also, if Germany were to attack Poland, then the Soviet Union would not come and help Germany. Secret protocol between these nations meant that they would take over Eastern European countries, that would be divided up evenly. -
Phoney War
The "phoney war" was the name given to the time period of 1939 to April of 1940. It was given because what happened in Western Europe was near to nothing. This was after the attack of Poland. -
Canada Enters the War
Two Canadian women were killed on a SSAthenia by German bombings. The very next day Canada declared war on Germany independently. -
Germany Invades Poland
Germany made a pact with Soviet Union that enforced non-aggresion between Germany and Poland. The pact was made to avoid the risk of a polish-french military alliance. This invasion occured in order for Germany to take over colonies that were lost from the Treaty of Versailles after World War I, and marked the start of WWII. -
Invasion of Norway, Denmark, Holland, Belgium
Germany first invaded, Norway and Denmark. Denmark surrendered that same day, but Norway, with help from the Allies, fought till May. Holland fell shortly after on May 14th and Belgium on May 28th. -
The Miracle at Dunkirk
During May and June of 1940, more than 300 000 people were rescued from Dunkirk and surronding areas. The soliders were needed to help defend against a Nazi invasion. -
The Invasion in France
Germany fooled the Allies by attacking through Southeastern Belgium and Luxemburg, instead of attacking through central Belguim. -
The Fall of France
On the 22nd of June 1940 and armistice was signed between Germany and France. This went into effect on the 25th of June. The Axis that this was a spectacular victory. -
The Battle of Britain
This was the first battle that was fought only using the air force. Hitler won air superiority on October 31 1940. -
Operation Babarossa
Operation Barbarossa was code name for the Nazis invasion of the Soviet Union. Planning of the operation started on December 18th 1940. -
The Attack of Pearl Harbor
This was a surprise attack on the United States naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. American joined the war and fought against the Japanese .
