The microphone was invented by a woman named Emily Berliner in 1876. The first microphone was actually used as a telephone voice transmitter. The Bell Telephone Company bought Berliner's patent for the microphone for $50,000. -

The frist flare gun was invented in 1877 by a US Navy officer whose name was Lt. Edward Wilson Very. The flare gun was first used in signaling and communication purposes in 1882. By 1910 the flare gun was being used worldwide. -

The television was invented in 1927 by a man named Philo T. Farnsworth. When he was 14 the idea came to him while he was mowing hay in rows on his dads Idaho farm. The development of his television was destroyed by a lack of money and his competitors (RCA) challenging his patent. -

The first pager was used in the Detroit Police Department in 1921. However the first pager to ever be patented was in 1949 and the inventor was Al Gross. They were used by the New York City's Jewish Hospital. -

The first person ever to invent the video tape recorder was Charles P. Ginsburg in 1951, Ginsburg led the Ampex Corporation in developing this. The first Video Tape Recorder wsas sold for $50,000 in 1956. The VCR that played these tapes was sold by Sony in 1971 -
