    Entertainment of the 70’s-Whole Decade

    -TV show Freaks and Geeks was on twice a week and was said to be the most popular TV show among teens in 1976. Cartoons were very popular during this time period. Mr. Men was a Saturday morning cartoon and a loved book series. School House Rock was also considered another Saturday morning cartoon. However it was very educational. Pink Panther made its debut in the 70’s, first as a cartoon and then made as a movie.

    -Flared jeans were in style, but by 1975 the bell bottom pants became extremely popular. Most men wore leisure suits. However, both men and women wore jump suits and tank tops. Usually girls wore tube or crop tops. Women loved platform shoes for dancing of course!

    First Earth Day-1970-Earth Day occurs on April 22 every year. Founder Gaylord Nelson, a US Senator from Wisconsin came up with this idea due to the massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, in 1969. He then forced environmental protection and built a national staff to help promote events. As a result, on April 22, 20 million Americans became involved and demonstrated helping in retaining a healthy environment.

    Production of oil during this time had dried up very quickly. With the loss of oil gas prices shot up through the roof. Products made using petrolum based products also shot up in price and became very scarce.

    involved the shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis
    Some of the students shot there were protesting Nixon's Cambodian Campaign, and others who were shot had been walking nearby or observing the protest from a distance

    The first Gay Pride March was on the last saturday(27th) in June, 1970. It took place in Chicago from Washington Square park to the Water tower at the intersection of Michigan and Chicago Ave's.

    The purpose of this campaign was to shut down the U.S. federal government for at least one day. On May 1, around 25,000 members of the Mayday Tribe moved into Washington to block their designated targets. However, the government was already prepared for their move. Combined force of 10,000 police, National Guard, and federal troops with around 4,000 troops available on reserve were ready to act. They got the order to be “firm” and to arrest every demonstrator on sight.

The terroist were killed but they killed their hostages and 1 officer

    Ranked as one of the greatest fights in the 20th century and is the climax to the bitter rivalry between Ali and Joe.

    In 1979 at Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in USA a cooling malfunction caused part of the core to melt in the # 2 reactor. The TMI-2 reactor was destroyed. Some radioactive gas was released a couple of days after the accident, but not enough to cause any dose above background levels to local residents. There were no injuries or adverse health effects from the Three Mile Island accident.
