The Dutch governor surrendered New Amsterdam to an English naval squadran. New Amsterdams name was changed to New York in honor of the Duke of York.

Penn founded Pennsylvania because he wanted a place where Quakers could live in peace. A mass emigration of Quakers took place.

George Washington arrives at what is now Pittsburg with 160 men. His main goal is to protect the Virginians who were building a fort, where it could be safe for English to trade. When the fort is in sight he sees that the French ambushed the fort and captured the British making the log palisade. Washington attempts a surprise attack on the French killing only 10. When he comes face to face with the Commander of the French army, he knows he is out numbered and surrenders.

The congress actually met from June 19 - July 11. All 13 colonies were invited to the meeting, but only 7 of the 13 showed. The colonies that attended were: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island,Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

The French and Indian war started in 1754 and ended in 1763. The war began over a dispute for ownership of the land where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers merge. The war officially ended with the signing of the Peace Treaty of Paris.
