Spc. William Hunsaker

  • Tour of duty in Iraq

Spc. William Hunsaker begins a tour in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division's 3rd Brigade. Hunsaker joined the U.S. Army as an infantryman in 2001. He previously served in Korea, attended Army Ranger school and earned the rank of specialist as a parachutist.
  • Operation Iron Triangle

The brigade lands near Tikrit in the Salahuddin Province. The soldiers had been told the area was an al-Qaida stronghold, and were given explicit orders to "kill all military-age males." Four Iraqi men were shot and killed, including a detainee with a knife who rushed Hunsaker.
  • Hunsaker charged with premeditated murder

A soldier says he had witnessed a deliberate plot by Hunsaker, Pfc. Corey R. Clagett, Staff Sgt. Raymond Girouard and Spc. Juston R. Graber to kill the Iraqis, and that the only injuries the soldiers sustained were self-inflicted. Other soldiers came forward to support the new story. Hunsaker, Clagett, Girouard and Graber are charged with premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder and making false statements.
  • Hunsaker sentenced to prison

Hunsaker is convicted of two counts of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
