  • Physical Development

    At this stage, children typically:
Refine coordination of large and small muscles. Have better balance and coordination. Refine the skills of climbing, running, skipping, hopping and tumbling. Learn sports involving good physical control.
  • Emotional Development

At age 6, your child will become more aware of emotions—both their own and those of others. Children this age may also increasingly express a desire to choose their own clothes, wash themselves, and comb their own hair.
  • Intellectual Development

Children at age 6 are in the later phases of Piaget's preoperational period, the time during which children learn to use language.
  • Cognitive Development

They start to see themselves as more autonomous individuals, capable of basic independent problem solving. As they begin to take note of the “right” way to do things, they invest more time and energy into completing tasks in the expected manner.
