Attack on Fort Sumter

When President Lincoln planned to send supplies to Fort Sumter, he alerted the state in advance, in an attempt to avoid hostilities. South Carolina, however, feared a trick; the commander of the fort, Robert Anderson, was asked to surrender immediately. Anderson offered to surrender, but only after he had exhausted his supplies. His offer was rejected, and the Civil War began with shots fired on the fort. Fort Sumter eventually was surrendered to South Carolina.

1st Battle of Bull Run

Antietam

~Bloodiest single day battle in American history
~More than 260,000 casualties
~McClellan didn't pursue the Confederates to possibly end the war. He went on to be fired on November 7th of that year

Emancipation Proclamation

~Freed the slaves in the confederacy, but not immedietley

Battle of Vicksburg

~Grant led troops there April 30th, 1863
~Last week of May, settled for a siege
~July 3rd, 1863- Confed. commander asked for terms of surrender
~City fell on July 4th.

Gettysburg Day 1

Day one of a battle that lasted three days during the Civil War in 1863.

Battle of Gettysburg Day 2

Jul 2, 1863

Second day of the battle, the Union had gotten now 60,000 troops over night and the Confederates now 50,000 they stared across a field eyeing eachother.

Draft Riots

Battle of Fort Pillow

Also known as the Fort Pillow Massacre, this battle was fought at Fort Pillow along the Mississippi River in Henning, Tennessee.
