When her mother died, 7-year-old Julie was forced to leave her home, father, and sister, and live with her brother at Aunt Cordelia's.

Julie devised a plan that makes it so that no one has to sit by poor, smelly, Aggie. The Queen (Aggie) sits in the middle of the circle while all of the other kids sit around her, but they are not allowed to look at the Queen. Aggie is always the Queen supposedly because she is the oldest (realistically because of her stench.)

While going home from school, Jimmy bet Danny that he wouldn't kiss Julie. Then, Jimmy and Chris held Julie still and Danny kissed Julie. All though she secretly liked Danny, Julie punched Danny in the eye after beng realesed.

After Julie and Chris's discovery of Uncle Haskell's monthly beer bottle burial, their father decided that Chris should not be under Uncle Haskell's infulence, so Chris was transfered to a bording school the next school year.

In the summer Julie was 10, Laura got married to Bill Strohmer.

Julie goes to visit Laura and Bill at their new house. Laura, however, is having a baby. This means that hanging out with Julie is not her first priority. That makes Julie feel jealous and mad. A couple weeks later, when Julie left Laurra's house, a train conductor explains that by wanting to be the most important to someone it is hard to be happy with being the second, third or forth most important.

A few days after her baby was born, Laura asked Julie to help hercare for baby Julie.

Because it is her last year living at Aunt Cordelia's, Julie can have a birthday party, but because Julie refuses to invite Aggie, Julie cancles the party because Aunt Cordelia requires that no one is excluded.

Aggie got sick, Aunt Cordelia instructed Julie to bring a bouquet to Aggie.

Jonathan was Aunt Cordelia's first love. She helped him get into collage when they were 18, but then Jonathan married someone else. Aunt Cordelia still loved Jonathan so when he returned with his wife, Aunt Cordelia was delighted, but still stern with Mrs. Eltwing.

The rural schools are all forced to close and the children bussed in to town. Aunt Cordelia could no longer teach at her school and she didn't want to teach at the town school.

The spring before she went to high school, Alica Allison got married to Julie's father.

When Julie moves in with her father, Alica starts to re organiize and redecorate.Because of this, the house no longer feels like a home and Julie moves back to her home with Aunt Cordelia.

When Uncle Haskle rescued Mrs.Eltwing, She completely trusted him and he cared for her until she died in the summer.

Three years into high school, Alica, Julie's step mother, and her literature teature talked with Julie about Bret Kingsman, whom Julie was dating. Alica said that Bret was shoddy. She also said that Julie could no longer help Bret on his writing homework. When Julie relayed the information about the homeowrk to Bret he got mad.

When Danny was driving Julie home from school he admitted he actually liked her. They started kissing in the rain. They dated through their high school graduation.
