  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    A protest where African Americans refused to ride the bus in spite of racism on public transportation. This lasted for 13 months.
  • Little Rock nine

    Little Rock nine

    First nine African American students to integrate into Little Rock Central high school, an all white school. They were constantly targeted with violence and threats even while entering the school
  • The First Counter Lunch Sit in

    The First Counter Lunch Sit in

    Starting of at Four Black students, all from North Carolina college sat at a whites only lunch counter as a form of non violent protest. This protest lasted for weeks and quickly grew in number
  • Freedom rides

    Freedom rides

    Protests against bus segregation between black and white people and Jim Crow laws. Black and interracial protesters rode interstate busses all the way through the south to challenge the laws
  • Birmingham Campaign

    Campaign led by Martin Luther king in Birmingham Alabama, the protest was nonviolent and the goal was to end segregation.
    Police responded to black protesters by using fire hoses and police dogs to break up the crowd.
