  • Prohibition begins

    Prohibition began exactly one year after the 18th amendment was passed, January 16th 2009. This prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of liquor. This was brought upon because many people( mostly women) believed that alcohol was the source of the problems in the country and that it would better society to keep it off the streets.
  • 19th amendment

    "voting rights of citizens of the United States shall not be denied on the basis of sex" is a passage from the short and to the point 19th amendment that gave women the right to vote. This was the date that the thirty-six states that were required to ratify for it to come into action did. This was a constitutional change, meaning all the states had to allow women to vote. Before this time, there were states that passed laws allowing women to have the right to vote, but the 19th made it universal
  • Ford Model T(beggining of the decade)

    in the beggining of the decade the price of the model T had fallen from $850(1908) to around $550 dollars per vehicle.
  • Fatty "Arbuckle" scandel

    Roscoe Arbuckle was a comedian. And he had always been one. since he was a teenager he traveled everywhere preforming and making people laugh. He was a hefty man weighing between 250-300 pounds. He used his weight as a part of his comedy. One night at a hotel paty "Fatty" was accussed of killing a 26 year old woman, Virginia Rappe. He was accused of killing her with his weight during intercourse.
  • Klu Klux Klan

    The KKK which had died down was now being revived in the 1920's, the leader of the Klu Klux Klan in the 1920's was a dentist named Hiram Wesley Evans who was nicknames "Imperial Wizard" The Klan was just as violent in the twenties collecting millions of members throughout the nation. They would burn black churches, rape, casterate, and lynch black people to get their point across. they were rarely caught because most the police officers were highly ranked members themselves.
  • Insulin discovered

    On January 11th 1922 the first dose of insulin was given to a human. A 14 year old boy, Leonard Thompson. This dose of insulin saved his life. Banting and Macleod were rewarded the nobel prize for this. People who were once basically told they were going to do were now living long lives because of this blood sugar lowering medicine.
  • the Charleston

    The Charleston was a new dance that was becoming popular in the year 1923. It gained popularity after appearing on a Broadway musical "Runnin' Wild" to the song "The Charlston" no origins of the dance are for sure but it has been traced back to blacks that lived on an island of the coast of Charleston, South Carolina.
  • Scopes Monkey Trial

    In 1925 Tennessee school teacher John Scopes was indicted for teaching evolution in school. This tested the "Butler act" which made it illegal to teach anything other then the Divine Creation of man as taught in the bible.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    The Mammoth Oil Company needed a new place to drill for new oil. Albert B. Fall who was Harding's secretary of the interior had control of the oil fields. He tried to secretly lease these oil fields to be drilled without anyone knowing. these oil fields were private and were supposed to be used by the navy in case of emergency. He was inturn paid...

  • Lindbergh Flies the Atlantic Solo

    The prize of 25,000 dollars was to be rewarded to any many who could fly from New York to Paris, France. Charles lindbergh a mail pilot took this challenge. on May 20th 1927 at around 8 in the morning he took off. and 33 and a half hours later he arrived in Paris to a crowd of over 100,000 people.
  • Babe Ruth sets homerun record

    "I've never heard a crowd boo a homer but I've heard plenty of boos after a strike-out." - Babe Ruth on September 30th 1927 Babe Ruth set the homerun record with 60 homeruns in a single season.
  • The Jazz Singer

    People from all over came to see the new revolution in entertainment. The first ever, full length, sound incorporated movie. The movie was titled "The Jazz Singer" and was debuted at the "Blue Mouse Theater" in Seattle. This was new technology for the people in the 1920's, they were not use to viewing movies with sound. $500,000 dollars was the sum of the money that was granted to make the movie. Tickets in Seattle were 50 cents. Twice the price that it cost before the talkie.
  • Ford Model T(end of decade)

    Towards the end of the decade Henry ford had perfected the assembly line and the model t. This allowed the price to be dropped to around $290 per vehicle
  • St Valentine's Day Massacre (cont,,,)

    ... Morning the North Side Gang was awaiting the Whiskey when four hired men, two in cop niforms with a cop car showed up, The gang expected a routine police raid, the men in uniforms requested they turn and face the wall. They shot them all, and the cops walked out holding the two men that came with them at gunpoint to hide all suspicions.
  • St. Valentine's day Massacre

    Jack Mcgurn of Capones gang had recently survived an assasination attempt from members of the North Side Gang. So Mcgurn went to Al Capone who was out of town and asked permission for a revenge attempt towards the rival gang. Capone granted the request and the plan was put into action. The North Side Gang was tricked into believing they were being sold whiskey at a very cheap price(during prohibition gangs traficked alcohol) so they were to meet in a garage beind SMC Cartage warehouse.   • Black Thursday

    Paniced sellers traded nearly 13 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange. Investors suffered $5 billion in losses on this one day.
  • Stock market crash

    Black tuesday, in the days leading up to the crash the market was very unstable. People were selling stocks nonstop, stocks originally bought for $100 dollars were being sold for just $10 dollars. There is no one cause for the stock market crash, declining real estate values were the beggining of a chain of events that caused the crash. Stocks lost 13% of their value, this is marked as the begginging of the great depression.
