  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian war was started due to the competition over the land in Ohio River Valley. Conflict over control of North American trade routes. Competition for trading alliances with Natives. The Effect of the war was that Britian raised Colonial taxes to help pay back the war debt. King George created the proclamation line that ended western expansion.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act of 1764 was to lower the taxes on The Molasses Act 1733. The goal was to decrease colonial smuggling in the West Indies. It was also an indirect tax that was added to the cost of sugar. The sugar act gave British soldiers 'Writs of Assistance' and that was to allow British soldiers to board and search any ship entering or exiting American harbors.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was a direct tax on all printed goods in the colonies. The colonists proceeded to to protest against the Stamp Act. The 2 major ways the colonists protested against the Stamp Act was by boycotting, they refused to buy British goods or printed material. The second major protest was the non-importation Agreement, which was the colonists refusing to purchase or sell British goods in markets and stores. That led to consequences such as tarring and feathering.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were to import duties that were placed on paper, glass, paint, and tea. Because of these acts the colonists had several boycotts and the act was repealed in only 4 years. They still keep the tax on tea though so they can show that Parliament still has authority over American Colonists.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act stated that colonists had to house and feed British soldiers. If colonists refused to let them into their homes and take care of them then they were allowed to seize their home. Colonists were very upset about this because now the British were taking away colonists right to their privacy. Nothing could be just theirs because the British soldiers were focing colonists to let them into their homes and they had to care for the soldiers. This was very upsetting to the colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was when The Bostom celebrated their triumph by dumping a lot of tea in an ocean in England. This made King George III very angry. King George recommends that England use force against Boston. This lead Parliament to "reduce colonies to state of dependence". Parliament also wantes to punish ones that were directly involved in the dumping of the tea.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    A group of representatives from every colony met in Philidelphia to discuss the Intolerable Acts. They discussed their 2 big questions which were "what are our rights?" and "how should we defend them?". They discussed boycotting and they discussed having no British imports. Just about every colony had a comittee. They published names of violaters in the newspapers and blacklisted and they avoided mobs.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Made up of a couple acts. 1 is the Bostonpart Act which caused money to go down and people lost their jobs. The king did this because he had to. 2nd was the Massachusettes Government Act which took authority away and gave it to British governor and officials. 3rd is Justice Act, it said that anyone accused of a capital crime will be tried in England. 4th act was the Quartering Act and that said that colonists must feed and house British soldiers. 5th act, Quebec Act kept colonies to the eastcost
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The British were having a hard time and militia were forming all over Massachusettes. Their goal was to seize leaders and munitions supply in Concord. Paul Revere tells everyone that the British are coming. The troops march through Lexington. 8 militia died and 11 were wounded. 273 British killed and 95 colonists dead.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    2nd Continental Congress
    A second meeting took place with new faces such as Franklin, Hancock, and Jefferson. It was basically a meeting that talked about reconciliation verses Independence. John Dickinson requests a petition for King George III while John Adams wants Independence because he says that England is to corrupt. They nominate George Washington to lead their army.
