    Mesoamerica-First Migration

    Paleo-Indians cross the Bering Land Bridge to North America when the sea levels dropped. The hunter- gatherers started to spread out and develop their own cultures. Later on they learned to farm and grow crops.

    Mesoamerica-8,000 BC-1,500 AD
    West Africa-300-1400 AD
    Europe-500 BC- 1400 AD

    North America-Early Societies

    Anasazi-1500 BC-1300 AD-Grew maize, and lived in Pueblos. inside the Pueblos were Kivas. They lived in the Four Corner Region.
    Mound Builders-1000 BC- 1700 AD- contained the Hopewell, the Mississippians, and many more. Built more than ten thousand mounds.

    North America-Native culture areas

    North and Northeast-Included the Inuit and the Aleut-Were Article and Subartic areas.
    West and Southwest-Included the Hopi, Miwok and Hupa and more lived here. There were more than 100 languages spoken.
    Great Plains-Included the Blackfoot people, Pawnee, and others lived here. Used tepees for shelter and were nomadic hunters.
    Northeast and Southeast-Cherokee, the Iroquois League, and more. Many cultures used wampum for money.

    Mesoamerica and South America- Early Societies

    The Olmec were the first people group. (400 BC) Olmec were known for their use of stone and architecture. The Mayans were the people closest in time to the Olmec. (200-900 AD) They were the first to build canals. The Aztecs were after the Mayans. (1100-1500 AD) One of the reasons the Aztecs were known so well was because of their military success. The Incas were the last people group. (1400-1500 AD) Thethe empire was home to about 12 million people.

    Ghana-First kingdom, trading center, Islam was a main religion
    Mali-Sundiata was the first ruler, but most well known one was Mansa Musa
    Songhai-1400s, Askia the Great was the most famous leader

    Europe- Greek and Roman Government

    The Greeks create Democracy, and the Romans create Rpublic.

    Europe-Middle Ages

    Feudalism is created, and the Crusades happen. Trading makes the Black Death spread everywhere. The time of the Renissance begin.

    Europe-Vikings and Prince Henry the Navigator

    Leif Erikson lands in present day Canada after his father settles the Vikings in Iceland
    Prince Henry the Navigator was one of the main people responsible for advances in sailing

    Atlantic-Columbus sails to the Americas

    Christopher Columbus sets sail for "Asia" on August 3, 1492. They arrive and believe they made it to Asia. Later on this creates conflict between Portugal and Spain, so the Line of Demarcation is made.

    Europe- A water route to Asia

    Bartolomeu reaches the edge of Africa, but doesn't go any farther. Then the king sends Vasco de Gama finds a sea route to Asia by using Bartolomeu's route to the edge of Africa

    Atlantic-Other Europeans sail to the Americas

    Amerigo Vespucci names the place 'New World', and then the New World is named after him, America
    Ferdinand Magellan and his crew sail circumnavigate the world
    The Colombian Exchange is created.

    Europe-the Protestant Reformation and war

    Martin Luther publicly criticizes the Catholic Church. The Protestant Reformation begins. King Philip II creates war against Queen Elizabeth I and their two countries go to war

    Ameria-African slaves

    Native Americans die from the European sickness, so Bartolome de Las Casa suggests Africans.
    The African Diasporas happens.
    The slaves keep their former culture, and family and religion was a refuge for them.

    America-Spanish Conquistadors

    Hernan Cortes left and arrived at Cuba. The conquistadors conquered the Aztecs and the Incans. The Incans are defeated by Pizzaro. The Spanish begin new settlements, and the first one is called New Spain.

    America-Exploration and treatment of the Native Americans

    The Spanish explored the sides of New Spain, and came into contact with the native Americans. They come up with the encomienda system. They force the Native Americans into labor. Bartolome de Las Casa tries to defend the Natives, but fails.

    America-The Dutch, English and French

    The English settle colonies on Roanoke Island, Virginia and North Carolina.
    The French settle colonies in Florida, were defeated, and then resettle in Canada.
    The Dutch settled in New Netherland, now known as New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Delaware.
  • America-Pilgrims and Puritans

    The Pilgrims were English Protestants escaping persecution. They sailed ion the Mayflower. The Pilgrims were helped by the Native Americans
    The Puritans left England in the 1620s.It was called the Great Migration, and they created the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

    America-The Southern Colonies

    Jamestown-1607-1676-Had Bacon's Rebellion. Took indentured servants, and also had slaves.
    Maryland-1634-1649-Had the Toleration Act of 1649, a religious law
    The Carolinas and Georgia-1663-1752-Had at one point twice as many slaves to white settlers. In 1712 North and South Carolina separated.
  • North America-\Life in the English Colonies

    Each colony had a governor to rule over them, and the governor was appointed by the Queen or King. Everything started changing. In the end, the English Bull of rights was created, and so the monarch's power not as strong. The triangular trade was made between Britain, the Americas, and Africa
  • North America-New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania

    An English fleet captures New Amsterdam and rename it New York. Later the Duke of York makes another colony, and it is named New Jersey.
    Later on, Quakers, a religious group in New Jersey. William Penn wanted a safe place for the Quakers, and created Pennsylvania.
  • North America-the Great Awakening and Enlightment, and the French war

    The Great Awakening was a religious movement that happened throughout the colonies
    Enlightenment--Spread ideas and reasoning to make society better.
    French War-the New England colonists and the Wampanoag leaders started fights, and created the French war. The treaty of Paris prevented more fighting.
  • North Ameirca-Boston Massacre and taxes

    To pay for the war, the colonists' taxes were raised higher. The committee of Correspondence was created, which made more rebellion against the taxing. The Boston Massacre was used as propaganda to make even ore rebellion. The Boston Tea party also occurred, in which 340 chests of tea were spilled into the Boston Harbor.

    People from other countries live in America, and everywhere also, because the Paleo-Indians migrated from somewhere else.

    The current names of many states in the U.S. are based off of he names hat were given in the English Colonies. (chapter 3)

    The exploration of space is very similar to exploring the Americas, and also the US is also helping the exploration of space, so that effects it also. (chapter2)
