20 important events in history

  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence is important because it is a part of our democracy, It contains our ideals and goals of this nation. It contains the opinion of colonists towards the British King. It explains why they wanted to be separate from the British rule. If it weren't for the declaration of Independence, then we wouldn't have been separated from the British rule.

    The Bill of Rights is important because it has all the amendments, which are our rights and freedoms. The Bill of Rights is important to every American, which is used everyday. The two most important amendments are the 1st and 2nd amendment. The fist amendment discusses the importance of free speech, and the second amendment discusses how people should be allowed to own a firearm to protect themselves.

    Women's suffrage played an important role in American history, because they helped women become equal to men. Back then women were only seen as useful in bearing children, and staying home taking care of them. Women didn't have the right to vote, and people saw women as weak. The women's suffrage helped women today to be treated equally.

    The Civil War played an important role in history because it was a key role in freeing African-Americans from slavery. The Civil War had occurred because there was tensions between the North and South about slavery. The North had won the war. After the war ended Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, so that the slaves in the south could be freed. If the Civil War had never happened then slavery could've been longer.

It wasn't safe or healthy, and people got diseases. This helped people realize the dangers of living in a tenement, and there started to be a change in living which would be used to make living healthy and safe for families.

    The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln was an important impact in history because during that time there was African-American slaves. Lincoln wanted to help free African-Americans from slavery. Lincoln was assassinated 5 days after the civil war ended. Many people were shocked about his assassination, and many had mourned about his death. This is very important because Lincoln helped free African-Americans from slavery. If Lincoln was never assassinated he could've made a bigger difference.

    The KKK is a group of white supremacists that believe that they are superior to other races. The KKK would kill African-Americans by hanging them. The KKK disliked the idea that African-Americans were freed from slavery. This had an impact because it caused a widespread fear among African-Americans. The KKK still continues till this day, but it is not as big anymore.

    The Industrial boom played an important role in American history because it helped with the production of many new products. The industrial boom helped with manufacturing new products. There was technological innovations which helped the oil industry. Telephones had a big impact because it helped people have communication with their family or friends. Goods were later transported much easier.

    The Sale of Foods and Drugs Act had an affect of America because it made the food industry healthy and safe. During the 1800's when food would be canned or packaged, the workers would mix in dangerous chemicals so that it wouldn't smell bad. It was made because people were getting very ill from the food that was very unsafe. It was also made so that people could know what was placed in their food. If this act was never passed, many of us could've gotten sick from the food we ate.

    The Chinese Exclusion Act had an important role in the U.S. because, that's when the U.S. banned anyone of Chinese descent to enter the U.S. The United Sates didn't want any laborers to enter the U.S., this happened because of "social issues". This affected the legal history of the U.S. and immigration.

    WW1 affected America politically and financially. Technology had advanced, and industries, and factories had increased. Women's suffrage was passed, because women had to take the place of men in work. Many people had immigrated to the U.S. from other countries. The number of workers in Labor Unions increased.

    Prohibition was made because during the 1920's men would get extremely drunk, and when they got home they would abuse their wives and children. This was made to stop that, but in reality it didn't. Alcohol was sold illegally, and many men were unhappy with the prohibition act. It didn't matter what people did to stop alcohol from being made, there was always a way to get it.

    The Great Depression changed America because that's when everybody had lost their jobs and homes, and many could not afford food. The government and the president did not do anything to help the people of America throughout the depression. This went on for 10 years. After the depression the government had realized that they must help the people when they need it. which helps us now.

    WW2 had changed America economically, and work was given to many people during the war. Women were discouraged during WW1 to work but they were allowed to work during the war which made an opportunity for them. A bill was passed to allow veterans to work, and buy a home. Opportunities expanded for everyone.

    The Bombing of Hiroshima was important since it is still a controversial topic today. Hiroshima was bombed during WW2 to make the Japanese surrender so that the war could end. The bombing caused there to be a mass amount of casualties. If the bomb was never dropped then there wouldn't have been victory for the United States.

    Civil Rights Movement

    The Civil rights movement is important to American history because it helped African-Americans to have the same rights as a white person. Segregation was a big thing during the 1960's. African-Americans couldn't go to school with whites, drinking fountains were separated by color, so were lunch counters, and bus seats. If the Civil Rights movement had never happened then African-Americans or anybody of color would've not been treated equally, and they wouldn't have had the right to vote.

    The Vietnam war had lasted for many years,and many American soldiers had lost their lives fighting in the war. The Vietnam war affected America in both good and bad ways. There was low inflation in 1962-1965, and the U.S. had spent $168 billion in the war. After the war had ended, being drafted had ended, people no longer were forced into being in the war. People were allowed to vote at the age of 18. The bad effect of the war was that American soldiers were very traumatized.

    Rock music was very important during the 1940's-1960's because it helped bring different groups of people together. Rock Music was said to be a bad influence for young children, but it wasn't. Many African-Americans were able to spread their emotions, feelings, and thoughts through the music. Rock N' Roll helped African-Americans cope with what they had gone through, so that's why it is so important.
  • JFK's assassination

    JFK was the 35th President of the United States during the 1960's. He supported the civil rights movement, and many minority groups. JFK was assassinated on November 22, 1963, which devastated many Americans. His assassination will always be remembered since he could've helped African-Americans more towards their freedom and rights.
  • 9/11

    9/11 is an important day because it was the day when two terrorists crashed into the twin towers, killing hundreds of people. This made a change in history since there is now stricter checks before someone get's on a plane. Belongings are now checked, and no-one can be trusted now. It is very sad that this happened, but the only good thing about this happening is that now flights can be much safer.
