1952 Immigration Act
A new act allowing the immigration minsiter to refuse entry for a wide variety of reasons.One of the main reason were, that Canada at that favoured the French and British immigrants. Canada fovoured them because they spoke the same language, and unlike the French the British shared the same traditions. I think this is significant because at the time Canada was knowm as the land of opportuinities; they're only given this opportuinities to certain groups. -

Many Canadian lawyers at that time had filed an appeal to the immigration system. An appeal to the system to allowilling immigrnts to argue their case to enter Canada. Canadian immigration minter Ellen Fairclough introduces new regulations. Regulations to get rid of all discrimination based on colour, race, national originor creed. To contereact the brain and drain of America. Anyone with the required education and skills could. This showed that Canada wasn't always under the influence of Britian. It showed that Canada was it's own country that accept peolple no matter what their bias was. -
Canada's Point System
The Canadian governement a system deciding who could come into immigrate into Canada called the point a system. The system emphasized edcucation and skills. It would grade thier age, job skills and knowledge of English and French. This topic would effect Canada because immigrants that didn't have much skills it would be harder for them to come to Canada to move here -

The Multicultral act was annonced. An act for the preservation and enhansement of multicultralalisim in Canada. The Act came into effect in July 21,1988. An act was put into place into follwing the wording by the United Nations High Commision for refugees. Allowing the cabinet minister to grant immigration staus to anyone who didn't meet the criteria. Breaking Down Barriers
The Canadian devloped a new citizenship act. It got rid of of differences among people applying based on age,sex , or marital status. It also eliminated the preference given to European and American applicants. On the world stage it showed Canada as more diverse country, that new citizens could keep they're cultral mosaic. -
The Immigration and Refugee Board
The immigration and refugee board is created. It's Canada's largest tribunal responsible for making decisions on immigration and refugee matters, efficiently fairly and in accordance. They would hold trials to see if refugees qualify ti immigrant to Canada under the immigration and refugee protection act. This showed that if some refugees didn't qualify they would be deported back. This showed that Canada was strict on who could come and immigrate.Some called it Mul ticultrslism gone haywire. -

The refugee legislation put in placeBill C-86. The concept of a 'safe thrid country', allowed to deny any who took refugene staus in another country. They could justify and deny any refugee claim. I think this most significant event on my timeline. Mainly because 2 decades back Canada would let anyone come into this country despite age, race , etc. Canada is shown to be a diverse and multicultral country. Now the introduction of these new acts could allow Canada trun away they want to.
