  • Iran Releases Hostages

    The Iran hostage crisis discussions took place between the US government and the Iranian government in 1980 and 1981 to settle the Iranian hostage situation. On January 20, 1981, the 52 American hostages who had been kidnapped from the US Embassy in Tehran in November 1979 were finally released.
  • Beirut barracks bombing

    Two truck bombs exploded in Beirut, Lebanon, on October 23, 1983, targeting buildings housing American and French servicemen of the Multinational Force in Lebanon, a peacekeeping mission during the Lebanese Civil War. 307 people were killed in the incident, including 241 US and 58 French troops, 6 civilians, and two terrorists.
