In the late 60's when Robert Moog introduced the moog synthesizers they were often too expensive for commercial use. That all changed in the 70's when the portable synthesizers was introduced (Minimoog)
The Minimoog which was only the size of a typewriter at the time was a somewhat affordabe and commercial synthesizer. This helped synthesizers to be more prominent in music at the time, for example multiple bob marley records that came out during the 70's. -
The smaller portable synthesizers were very limited due to how they could only play 1 or 2 notes at a time, this is where the Polymoog came in. A very early polyphonic synthesizer with 71 keys which came up in hit songs such as "Cars" by "Gary Numan". In the later decade more and more polyphonic synths hit the market but the Polymoog started the wave of polyphonic synths. These types of synths are still used today and are very popular with ambient artists.

One of the first users was Ryuichi Sakamoto and his Yellow Magic Orchestra in the laste 70's. Other early adopters started to pick this piece of technology up in the early 80s

This is one of the first cases where one machine is a synthesisers and a digital sampler, These machines were far from affordable but it could be replacated in the 90's on a cheap home computer. It was really populer among big names in the industry, such as; John Paul Jones, Kate Bush and Stevie Wonder. Digital Samplers and Synths are still used to date but i dont believe anyone uses this specifc machine due to it being incredibly outdated today.
