Rosa Parks Arrested

Rosa Parks is arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on the bus. She was arrested for disobeying Alabama law which required black people to relinquish seats to white people when the bus was full.

Jan 31, 1958

U.S. Launches Satellite

The U.S. launches the first satellite called Explorer I, making entry into the "space race" with the Russians.

Apr 4, 1968

MLK Assassination

Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Tennessee. He was killed by James Earl Ray who pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 99 years in prison.

Watergate

Five men are caught breaking and entering the headquarters at the Watergate hotel in Washington D.C. This eventually ended in President Nixon's resignation.
