1921-1941 TIMELINE

  • Warren G. Harding Wins Election

    After World War I had ended, life in America was not the same. The country had been in a frenzied state after deploying roughly 4.7 million soldiers. Warren G. Harding won the election following WWI, gaining a massive following through his promise of returning America to how it was pre-war.
  • Stock Market Crashes Causing the Great Depression

    On October 29th, 1929, the US stock market crashed. As stock prices went down, more and more people sold their stock to get out of the declining market, resulting in an even worse crash. American citizens continued to sell stock until the market was lower than ever before. This led to increased poverty and unemployment.
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt Becomes President

    The American public viewed the Great Depression as the Republican party's fault, so it came as no surprise when Democratic candidate Franklin D. Roosevelt won the election to become the 32nd president. Roosevelt promised that he would lift America out of depression and restore it's former glory.
  • Roosevelt Puts a 'Bank Holiday' Into Effect

    In response to the terrible state of the US Banks, President Roosevelt shut down all banks in America for 4 days. This allowed him time to plan out how he was going to revive the dead market.
  • Prohibition Ends

    With the passing of the 21st amendment, all prohibition laws stated in the previous 18th amendment were repealed. American citizens celebrated as laws on alcohol returned to normal.
  • Hoover Dam is Completed

    The Hoover Dam was the largest dam at it's time of completion in 1936. The dam provided incredible amounts of electricity to Nevada and surrounding states. Even today, the dam produces enough energy for multiple cities.
  • World War II Begins

    Under the leadership of Hitler, Germany invaded Poland, looking to claim the country as it's own. In response. Poland and it’s allies Britain and France both choose to declare war on Germany.
  • Japanese Bomb Pearl Harbor

    On December 7th, 1941, the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the naval base at Pearl Harbor. The chaos that occurred at Pearl Harbor resulted in the destruction of over 20 American warships and 300 planes. Approximately 2,400 Americans were killed. This event triggered the joining of America into World War II.
