Joe "king" Oliver was a leading artist he was one of the many famous artists during this time. He was able to have his band travel to cities including Chicago, and New York. During his time he taught many people all the jazz techniques and helped them create their own music.

    The decade kicked off with the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave white women the vote. Women also joined the workforce in increasing numbers, participated actively in the nation's new mass consumer culture, and enjoyed more freedom in their personal lives.
    Women worked primarily as factory workers, servants, teachers, laundresses, salespeople, clerks, bookkeepers, dressmakers, and housekeepers. The jobs that had the most significant increase for women were clerks.
