    Banting and Best Discover Insulin (Social)
    Before insulin was discovered, diabetes was a deadly disease that almost certainly led to death.In 1921 Frederick Banting took his idea of insulin to the University of Toronto, where he conducted multiple experiments with Charles Best. In January 1922, a 14 year old boy with diabetes was given insulin; helping him regain his appetite and strength. Soon, in 1923 the Nobel Committee decided to award Banting with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

    After the first world war, Britain had troops stationed in Turkey, which was a former member of ottoman empire. However, tensions were rising and Turkish forces eventually threatened British troops to leave the country. On September 15, 1922, Britain sent out a telegram calling upon the Dominions for military support regarding the crisis. Although Canada was part of the Dominions, it decided to not contribute in the conflict, which was already resolved, by the time Canada had come to a decision.

    The halibut treaty was a treaty between Canada and the U.S, to control the fishing rights in the Northern-Pacific. It was an environmental treaty to protect the fish stocks. The treaty marked Canada's political and economic place in North America. This was also one of the first treaty Canada had signed independently, without Britain signing along with them.

    Section 24 of the British North America Act said only persons could run for senate in Canada. At the time, "persons" only referred to men. Due to this, five women decided to head to court, and fight to change the definition of persons, so women could run for senate. These women went to the supreme court, but left disappointed when they did not win the case. They then went to the Privy Council in England, which granted their wish on October 18, 1929, concluding that "persons" does include women.

    Black Tuesday was a major economic crisis on October, 29, 1929. It was the day the American Stock Market collapsed, and is still the biggest stock market crash in history. Many people bought stocks on credit, and went broke after the crisis. Banks had invested peoples deposits into the market causing many to lose their savings. Black Tuesday and the stock market crash was one of the most devastating moments to Canada in the twenties, and was the beginning of what's known as "The Dirty Thirties".

    A severe drought had hit the prairies during the 1930s. Along with the great depression, this made many Canadians lose their jobs. The drought harmed farmland, destroying crops. Saskatchewan was the hardest hit province, along with Manitoba and Alberta. Farmers lost their jobs, manufacturing sectors lost demand for their farm tools and went down as a result as well. This ruined many exports and trades and also took a hard hit on the economy.

    In the 1930 federal election, Mackenzie King was up against R.B Bennet. Although the country was in harsh economic ties Mackenzie King did not believe the government had a role to play in the economy. On the other hand, R.B Bennett promised to raise tariffs to protect the economy and help the economy prosper again. As a result, he won the election and went on to be the next Prime Minister of Canada.

    On to Ottawa trek (Social)
    The on to Ottawa trek was a journey made by 1000 men, working in relief camps in British Colombia.They boarded freight trains, and started their journey to the nations capital, to negotiate their wages and living conditions.Prime Minister Bennett heard of this, and intercepted the trains in Saskatchewan.He called the protest leaders to Ottawa, however they did not come to an agreement. This resulted to riots in Regina, which in the end did not solve anything. In the end the men went back to B.C.

    With the rise of Hitler, fascism, and Japan invading china, tensions were on the rise eventually leading to war. Canada joined the war on September 10th,1939 , and fought throughout the long 6 years it lasted. As part of the allies Canada was fighting up against the axis, including Germany which Canada fought many battles against in WW1. Countless of lives were loss due to this war, and many families devastated. World War II was an important event in the history of Canada, as well as the world.
