    all winnipeg workers went on strike, citizens about 1000 peo[ple opposed the strike. all workers refused to attend their jobs, closing the industries. Police were asked to sign a contact, but refused. That resulted in all policeman the be fired. Fed created an "amendment" allowing deportion of anyone born outside of Canada.

    Prohibition was the ban of liquor. this happened during world war 1. The men came back finidng more than they expected. they had to smuggle in the alchol. People opened up secret bars called "speakeasies", for drinking and sociaizing with others.
  • The Group of Seven

    The Group of Seven were artists, by the names of; Franklin Carmichael, Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, Franz Johnston, Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, and Frederick Varley. They met in 1911-1913 in Toronto, but didnt discover their group till 1920. The Group painted landscape, they started after their first exhibition at the Art Gallery of Toronto in 1920. Tom Thomson was another artist, but sadly passed away years before the formation of the group..

    Canadian Reginald Fessenden created the radios as way of entertainment, buisness and advertising. 10 years later there was almsot 300 000 radios in canada. just a few canadian stations were avaible so most were tuned into american stations. these radios became plug-ins and batteryless. this helped the canadas with economy, advertisement and their entertainment. Relief after war, they used radios for fun.

    women were not aloud to vote. In 1848 a convention was held, by 1920 women won the vote all through the nation.. causing america to create the amendment. During wolrd war 1 the women had to take up the jobs while the men were away. This was a reminder that women do play a part in the nation and they have a right to vote. The womens suffarge was an impact on canada when Cairine Reay MacKay Wilson wass appointed the first womens senator

Brisith asked for canadas assistance. After debating, canada defused to send troops. In the following year (1923) canada signed its first treaty without britian, creating the 2 independences.

    Docotors new that sugar worsened the condition of being a diabetic, most of the people went on diet. After discovering and introducing this medication in the medical field. There was a huge change since there were fewer people dying from diabetes.!

    The parliment of canada passed the act of banning most types of chinese immagrants. Most of the other countires were controlled and have ristricted in ways, but it happened to be that only the chinese were completely prohibited from immagrating. from 1923-1947 only 8 people had immagrated to canada. The chineses exclution act happened cause of the completion of the railway, people were scared cause the chinese might take over their jobs, since they were used to the low wage.
  • RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force)

    april 1 st 1924, an air force group was established, known as the Roayl Canadian Air Force (RCAF). The RCAF had many jobs/tasks they were given, such as; photographying vast ares of the maritimes, patrolling forests and fishing grounds, smuggling people etc.. unfortunatly they werent a very major military force. That was because they no training what so ever.

    Began in1916, when a judge named Emily Murphy, was challenged in the courtroom because she was a woman. Soon after, the issue of a woman Senate came up and the question of do woman count as a person in laws came up again. In 1927, Emily along 4 other woman; Nellie McClung, Louise McKinnet, Henrietta Edwards, and Irene Parlby decided to start a petition on the subject. They brought the case to the Privy Council in Britain. That is where it was decided that woman were actually people.!

    The stock market was an indicator of national properity. Many people started inesting in stocks as an easy way to make money. Due to panick of the stocks dropping, investors decided to try to trade their shares. On Oct. 24, 1929. also known as black thursday almost all the shares were traded excpet for 299. The investors lost all they invested. This created the great depression. Spread to all the countries, even Canada.

    Black Tuesday was when the New York Stock Exchange crashed; the crash that had caused thousands of people to lose their fortunes. Thousands of investors wiped out because they couldn’t sell any of what they paid for. Banks started demanding payments for the loans that many used to buy stocks, most of the borrowers could not repay their loans. This caused banks to withdraw customer’s deposits for stocks. Values of stocks became so low that banks weren’t able to recover their depositor’s money.

    During the Great Drepression, William Lyon Mackenzie King spoke up explaining that he wont give even a nickel to anyone who was looking for a relief payment, or someone who even lost their job and need as much extra as they could get. the speech included of the social welfare and how it was the responsabilities of the provinces. This is a main reason why the liberals ended up losing the elections. Richard Bedford Bennett part of the conservatives ended up becoming the prime minister of canada
  • Prime Minister

    R.B. Bennett (priminister) was a successful Canadian lawyer, businessman, and politician. Born on July 3rd, 1870-June 26, 1947. Bennett was the 11th Prime Minister of Canada, this was the worst of the Great Depression years. He was elected to the House of Commons in 1911 and became Conservative leader in 1927. Winning the federal election of 1930, after Bennett tried to fight the depression . He attempted to expand trade within the British Empire.
  • Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC)

    During 1933, the government created the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission.This business corporation was created to work against the American’s authority of the airwaves and to help the development of Canadian programs. This established canada's unity. CBC is just as popular now as it was then, great success.

  • Ottawa Treck

    This took place in June 1935. Thousands of men were tired of the hard life in the British Columbia relief camps. They went onto trains and were headed to Ottawa to protest. They wanted minimum wage and social unemployment insurance and were joined by other men. The men got to Regina when they were stopped by the Mounted Police. Prime Minister R. B. Bennett claimed it was a plot to overthrow the government. The Trek ended in a riot with many injured and one death.
