    World War 1
    World War 1 has more pros than cons. Many innocent people were forced to go to war and leave their homes, a lot of people lost their lives or got injured badly. The economic costs in devastation and lost productiveness were massive. Canada's debt started before World War 1 and shot up more due to warfare. During World War 1 women weren't even considered people under the law unless they committed a crime and they weren't allowed to vote.

    In the 1920's they felt that by changing the natives' culture and lifestyles to be more like the typical Christian Canadian, all their problems would be solved. They got taken away from their homes and abused mentally and physically.
  • Coal/Factory workers

    They had people working dangerous and unsafe jobs for very little money and even hired kids to work where they were paid even less this was until they had to go on strike where one of the miners was killed which cause even more riot.
  • Racism

    All across Canada, African-Canadians were excluded from the majority of positions and worked chiefly as servants or railway porters. By the end of 1920 their were over 10,000 Canadians that were active in various local chapters of KKK. All across Canada, employers refused to hire African-Canadians in shops and restaurants.

    After World War 1 the economy was damaged mainly in Newfoundland and Labrador by increasing the public debt. By the time the Great Depression broke out in 1929 the country's public debt totaled $80 million.

    After World War 1 ended more babies were born which meant more kids to go to school so more schools were made and more money was put into schools which helped young adults find suitable jobs.
  • Women's rights

    During the 1920's women gained more rights and started spending less time inside the house. They gained the right to vote and started to dress outrageously.

    There were lots of new technology created 1914-1929 that was very helpful some examples are...the radio, washing machine, refrigerator, instant camera, automobiles and many more.
  • Chinese immigrants

    Chinese immigrants
    Chinese immigrants came to Canada in the 1880's to help build the Canadian Pacific Railway and provided cheap labour for the Canadians until Canadian workers were upset they were taking all the jobs. They started facing a lot of discrimination, in 1923 legislation passed which banned Chinese immigrants from Canada completely.

    In the late 20's the great depression started which was the longest and most severe economic downturn. There was mass unemployment, banking panics, and sharp increases of poverty and homelessness
