    Theodore Roosevelt becomes the United States 26th President. As one of the youngest presidents in US history he accomplished several things. He curved the monopolistic power of the railroads, facilitated the construction of the Panama Canal, strengthened the US navy, and many more. All of this eventually lead him to being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

    Woodrow Wilson is elected as the United States 28th President. Wilson was one of the following presidents to carry on segregation through out government offices following in Roosevelt and Tafts footsteps.

    The Panama Canal officially opened on August 15, 1914, although the planned grand ceremony was downgraded due to the outbreak of WWI. Completed at a cost of more than $350 million, it was the most expensive construction project in U.S. history to that point all laid out and constructed under President Roosevelt's plans.

    On the day of April 6, 1917 the United States is voted by a 373 to 50 vote by the House of Representatives to enter the war. These votes were based off Germanys decision to pursue submarine warfare again, the "Zimmerman Telegram", and Germany wanting to be an alliance with Mexico.

    The Treaty of Versailles was the most important of the peace treaties that brought World War I to an end. The Treaty ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers. The purpose of this treaty was to punish Germany for destroying other nations territory. They would basically have to pay back the nations to fund their reconstruction.
