    Eli Whitney Invented the Cotton Gin
    Back in the day,during the Industrial Revolution, it was hard for people to separate the seeds from cotton. To separate just 1 pound of cotton from the seeds it would take a whole day. Then, Eli Whitney decided to invent the cotton gin in 1793. It saved a lot of time because it made it easier for the people. Also, because they were able to now separate about 50 pounds a day with the cotton gin.

    Long ago, there was a law where you had to pay tax for whiskey. A lot of people did not agree that was fair. There was a tax protest in 1794 named the Whiskey Rebellion. This took place throughout the western frontier. This was the first ever tax on a domestic product.

  • Congress Bans the Importation of Slaves

    Congress Bans the Importation of Slaves
    Before 1808, slaves were able to be imported from Africa. They were sold to rich white people. Then in 1808, congress decided to make a law that says slaves cannot be imported into the United States anymore. There was a population of over four million slaves in the south. Some congressmen from the south as well as the north, voted to end the slave trade. This date was permitted by the United States Constitution to end the slave trade as fast as possible.

    The war of 1812 inspired nationalism and sectionalism because this was the first war that the country fought as an independent nation against a foreign country.
  • The Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise were a series of laws in 1820 to keep the balance of power between slave states and free states. There was a new state which made the slave states and free states uneven. The south needed slaves the most to pick cotton. This is why the 36' 30 line was created. This made everything above the line a free state and everything below it a slave state.

    The Monroe Doctrine is a policy towards the Western Hemisphere. It warned the European nations that the United States would not permit colonization.
  • Nat Turner Led the Most Famous Rebellion

    Nat Turner Led the Most Famous Rebellion
    Nat Turner was against and did not like slavery. He then started the most famous rebellion in 1831. This spread through several plantations in southern Virginia. After two days, the militia ended the rebellion. Nat Turner and his followers killed around sixty white people including women, men, and children. Nat Turner hid in the woods for two months. When he was found him and fifty four slaves were executed for their role in the rebellion but, he still made a very large impact in U.S history.
