    Proclamation of 1763

    This proclamation reserved the right of western expansion for the Native Americans. The colonists responded to this by resenting the British Government and moving West anyways.

    Prohibited the printing and distribution of paper money by Colonial Legislatures. Colonists protested and used other forms of currency to get around this act.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act

    Act passed in order to raise money by placing taxes on things like sugar and molasses. Enforced by the British Navy ships were searched and if contraband was found it was taken and heavy fines were placed on the merchants. Colonists protested this by boycotting British goods and only getting the smuggled items.

    This required colonists to provide British soldiers with food and space in their homes. Colonists argued against the law and refused to follow it which lead to violence.

    Required all papers and legal documents to have a stamp otherwise it was considered null and void. The colonists began protesting the tax and even began attacking British effigies and some protests turned violent.

    This act claimed that the British Parliament had the same power to put taxes on people in America like people in Britain. Colonists protested this by boycotting, organizing public demonstrations, and writing letters to British officials.

    This act placed taxes on things like glass, paper, lead, and paint. Colonists protested this both peacefully and violently. They boycotted and the Sons of Liberty attacked British officials.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre

    Colonists threw snowballs at British soldiers which caused them to fire their rifles into the crowd killing 3 colonists. Colonists reacted by using the uproar to gain more ground against Great Britain.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This was an event where the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Mohawk Indians and boarded British ships throwing the cargo or boxes of tea of the ships in the harbor.

    Great Britain responded to the Boston Tea Party by passing 4 harsh laws against the colonists. the colonists protested these acts by boycotting and creating and holding the First Continental Congress.

    This act was passed allowing Royal Governors to put soldiers into colonists' houses without consent. Colonists protested this by boycotting and refusing to allow the soldiers entry.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act

    This act allowed French Catholics to move to the Ohio River with the Quebec province increasing and they received a few more rights. The colonists protested this by boycotting and even had armed groups fight with the British.
