    British and French fighting over land. British success. This war made the colonists realize they can unite and be separate from Britain.

  • The Sugar Act

  • The Stamp Act

    Required that all documents bear a stamp that could be purchased only from official tax collectors. Colonists were outraged.
  • Quartering Act

    Requires colonists to feed and house British soldiers.
  • Pitt's compromise

    Stamp Act was repealed and Sugar Act was weakened.

    Taxes on import of glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    A street mob challenged British troops. 5 colonists were killed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Protest against the Tea Act, dumped 342 chests of tea overboard.
  • Intolerable Acts

    British government closed part of Boston and suspended charter of Massachusetts. Way of punishing colonists for the Boston tea party.
  • First Continental Congress

    Delegates from each of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia to organize resistance to Parliament's Coercive Acts.
