1763-1774

  • Proclamation of 1763

    This ended the Seven Years War and transferred French territory in North America to Great Britain. The American colonists were angry about this act.
  • Sugar Act

    Great Britain passed this act to tax sugar and other things so that they could get out of debt from the French and Indian Wars. The colonists started a boycott of some of the items from Great Britian.
  • Currency Act

    Parliament passed this act so that they could have control over the colonial currency system and the colonies couldn't print their own money anymore. The colonists said that this act would cause them to fall deeper into depression so they were angry.
  • Stamp Act

    Parliament passed this act to help pay the cost of military that were defending the colonies. The colonists reacted by boycotting British goods and made some of the stamp distributers quit their job.
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    The British Parliament required the local governments of the American colonies to provide the Soldiers of Britain with housing and food. The colonists felt like soldiers were not need any longer because they thought it would make it seem like they were ready for another war.
  • Declaratory Act

    This act stated that British had the right to pass laws regrading the colonies. The colonists felt like this was a win because the British passed a new act so that they can change their decisions.
  • Townshend Act

    Parliament passed this act to tax goods sent to the American colonies. The colonists didn't see this as an disadvantage because most of them didn't have representation in Parliament.
  • Boston Massacre

    A mob in Boston was harassing the British soldiers and this led the soldiers to shoot and kill several people. The colonists continued to protest and they felt like the British were getting scared.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This was a protest that started because of the Tea Act, the American colonists threw over 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. The British were upset because of the amount of money they lost during this protest.
  • Quartering Act of 1774

    This Quartering Act was similar to the first one but this required the local government to help the soldiers with housing and food. The colonists did not like this because they felt like it wasn't fair since they had to do this even if they didn't want to.
  • Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts)

    The British Parliament passed four acts, the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act. They passed these acts because of the Boston Tea Party, the colonists came together to find a way to approach the British.
  • Quebec Act

    This act led to the disagreement between the American colonies and the creation of the Declaration of Rights. The British were afraid that this was happening and the American colonists were scared that the French would return to the Western boarders.
