  • Proclamation of 1763

    This proclamation reserved all of the western territories between the Allegheny Mountains, Florida, the Mississippi River, and Quebec for use by Native Americans. The colonists felt disregarded by this proclamation.
  • Sugar Act

    This act made the importation of foreign rum illegal and levied taxes on wines, silks, coffee, and other luxury items. Colonists protested this law
  • Currency Act

    This act made colonies unable to make legal tender. Colonists found this objectionable.
  • Stamp Act

    This act required all newspapers, broadsides, pamphlets, licenses, leases, and other legal documents to bear revenue stamps. Colonists created a congress to fight against this act.
  • Quartering Act

    This act required colonists to provide royal troops with food and housing. Colonists found this objectionable
  • Declaratory Act

    This act asserted Parliament's authority to make laws over the colonies in all cases.
  • Townshend Acts

    This act made it so that taxes imposed on imported goods were legal while internal taxes were not.
  • Boston Massacre

    A standoff between the colonists and British troops in Boston devolved into a mob attack and someone gave the order to fire; three Bostonians died.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The East India Company made smuggling tea unprofitable and threatened independant merchants. As a result, a band of colonists dumped three ships worth of tea into Boston Harbor.
  • The Coercive Acts

    This act closed the Boston Harbor until all the tea was paid for.
  • Quartering Act

    Suitable housing was required to be given to British Troops. Colonies rallied to aid.
  • Quebec Act

    This act expanded Quebec's territory south to the Ohio River and conformed to France's practices such as trials without a jury.
