    On December 20, 1609 Colonist left England and set sail on the London Company ships to build a colony in Virginia.

    Colonist arrived in the Chesapeake Bay in April of 1607. When the colonist arrived they sailed up river to discover an area that would be safe from the Spanish.

    After sailing up a river to discover a safe areas to build a colony, the colonist discovered a Peninsula that met their requirements. They decided to settle there and named the town Jamestown. Jamestown became the very first permanent colony in the New World.

    Santa Fe was established by the Spanish in 1609. It is the oldest capital city in the country.Santa Fe was settled by a conquistador named Don Pedro de Peralta.

    in 1609 Powhatan laid siege to the Jamestown colony. Because Powhatan would not let colonist out of the town without being killed, it started what is known as the "starving time' which killed off almost the entire colony of Jamestown.

The job of the house was to evaluate petitions from the colonist, negotiate with other groups of people, and write bills. The House of Burgesses also played a key role in the Revolutionary War. The House of Burgesses led the call for the Revolution in Virginia in 1776.

    A small group of people from England set out to start a colony in the New World. They packed their possessions and spent a total of sixty-six days on the Mayflower until they reached Cap Cod on November 11, 1620.

    Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was constructed and signed by the Pilgrims after arriving at Plymouth. This Compact was signed to establish peace and unity among the colonist. The compact served as a temporary patent to settle in Jamestown.

    Indian Massacre
    The war originally started over the idea of integration. The English Settlers in Jamestown wanted to integrate the Indians into their communities and civilize them. The English also sought to expand further into Virginia which posed a threat to the Indians and their way of living. The Powhatan Indians planned to attack the colonist and fooled the colonist by pretending to be friends with them. The Indians attacked and killed 347 settlers.

    Maryland was founded in 1634 by Leonard Calvert. George Calvert, the first Baron of Baltimore applied for a royal charter to start the "Maryland Colony". Unfortunately, George Calvert died before the charter was granted so it was granted to his son Cecilius Calvert on June 20, 1632. Leonard Calvert the younger brother of Cecilius's led the expedition. They landed in Maryland on March 25, 1634. They named the territory after Queen Henrietta Maria who was the wife of King Charles 1.

    The Pequot War began over conflict with the fur trade. The Dutch and Pequot's controlled the fur trade of the region and when the English came it caused competition and conflict.The English wanted to gain control of the fur trade in the region. Tensions arose between the Pequot's and the English which led to the Pequot War. The War ended with the treaty of Hartford which dispersed the remaining Pequot throughout other Indian tribes an banished them from their land.

    The Connecticut colony was founded by Thomas Hooker. Thomas Hooker was a puritan minister who established Hartford Connecticut with a group of his followers.

    In 1644 Opechancanough coordinated an assault on the colonist that resulted in the deaths of many colonist. Opechancanough was the chief of the Powhatan Indians. This attack was orchestrated to prevent the colonist further expansion and it was aimed to finally expel the colonist from their land.

    Quakers fled to the New World seeking religious freedom. They sought to establish colonies of acceptance and free of religious persecution. Many Quakers came over years later in 1682 with William Penn and settled in Pennsylvania.

    The Esopus Wars were caused due to tension between the Lenape Indians and the Dutch settlers. One night a group of Espous Indians got drunk around a campfire. The Dutch saw this and thought they were about to go to war against them . The Dutch then attacked the Espous Indians which kick started the Espous Wars, a war that would lead to the deaths of many settlers and even more Indians. As a result of this war, many Indians lost their land.

    The Dukes Laws were complied and established at a convention in Hempstead, Long Island. The Convention was called together by Governor Richard Nicolls and was comprised of two representatives from each of the sixteen towns in Long Island. The Duke Laws set up trial by jury, taxation by property proportion, and established the Court of Sessions. The Duke Laws applied to Long Island, Staten Island, and Westchester.

    King Philip's War
    King Phillips War arose from a conflict between English colonist and American Indians. The Indians wanted to rid the land of colonist. There were growing tensions between the Indians and the colonist. Theses tensions were brought to action when John Sassamon was killed by three Wampanoug's which were later arrested and executed by the colonist which kick started the war. . This bloody war lasted for fourteen months.The war resulted in the ending of Native American power in New England

    Bacon's Rebellion began as a result of Thomas Matthew refused to pay a debt to the Doeg People they took Matthew's pigs to settle the debt sparked the rebellion. Following the pig stealing, colonist and Susquechanock Indians began killing one another and violence broke loose.
