    Set Sail
    1620, the year the pilgrims set sail for the new world. They loaded the ship and left England, and there was only one child born on the ship, his name was Oceanus Hopkins. A lot of people on the ship got sick. They had to stay off the deck until the bad storm was over. The Pilgrims had to eat salted beef, dried biscuits called "hard tack," and other dried vegetables until they were able to cook on the deck.

    From 1620 to 1621 the pilgrims found and built a new home where they could practice their own religion. They also made friends who helped them survive through the harsh weather.

    Heading for Jamestown
    The pilgrims were heading for Jamestown Virginia to make a settlement but a big storm hit their sails and made them get off course, instead they went to Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
  • Born on the Ship

    Born on the Ship
    When the ship got knocked off course and instead went to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, a boy named Oceanus Hopkins was born on the ship. He was the only baby born on the ship and his parents named him after the ocean.
  • Landing on Plymouth Rock

    Landing on Plymouth Rock
    November 9, my birthday, the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth rock. Everyone was happy that they made it but they didn't arrive to a paradise.
  • Meeting House

    The Pilgrims had a meeting in the meeting house about the Mayflower Compact. Everyone in the meeting house agreed to sign it. The meeting house is somewhere that the Pilgrims hold church services and meetings.

    Mayflower Compact
    When the pilgrims landed they all had to sign a paper called the Mayflower Compact. This was a way to keep order and develop laws for the new colony. It showed their loyalty to the King.
  • Hard Work and Labor

    Hard Work and Labor
    When the pilgrims arrived there was nothing it wasn't paradise. They had to survive the cold winter when they got to the New World. Most people died from the cold weather, starvation, and disease. One day a native American named Samoset found the pilgrims, it was a miracle, he brought them to his people then another native American named Squanto taught them how to hunt and grow crops and he taught them how to fertilize rocky soil with dead fish.

    The pilgrims were so happy that they made it through the horrible weather storms and survived and had a lot of food so they had their first Thanksgiving. In their community Thanksgiving was a term for prayer and fasting or not eating.
  • Big Thanksgiving Feast

    Big Thanksgiving Feast
    The Pilgrims had so much food so they decided to share their food with 90 Wampanoags, Squanto, and Chief Massasoit. They all ate a huge feast together and shared all the good food that they hunted and the crops that they grew.
  • New Colonies

    New Colonies
    When the colony in Cape Cod was made other people moved to New England also for religious freedom. The states were Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
