    -The first Preakness was held on May 27, 1873. -The Preakness Stakes is held two weeks after the Derby. -One lap is 1 3/16 miles long -The race is named after the colt, Preakness, from Milton Holbrook Sanford's Preakness Stables in Preakness, Wayne Township, New Jersey, who won the Dinner Party Stakes the day Pimlico was opened.

    -Merriweather Lewis Clark, Jr., grandson to William clark of the Lewis and Clark group, started The Kentucky Derby -Churchill Downs, where the Derby takes place, is named after relatives of Clark. -He organized the race in hopes of raising money to build quality racing facilities just outside of Louisville, Kentucky. -Always held on the first Saturday of May

    -Offspring of the great Man O' War -He was born at Faraway Farm in Lexington, Kentucky and was owned by Samuel D. Riddle -He won 21 of his 26 races. More Information

    -He was the fourth horse to ever win the Triple Crown. -He was also the first three-year-old horse his owner, Samuel D. Riddle, raced in the Triple Crown. Riddle thought the series of races was too much for such young horses.

He ran it in 1:59 2/5. -His run time at the Preakness stakes is fuzzy, but the Maryland Jockey Club recorded his time as 1:54 2/5. However, the Daily Racing Form, recorded his time as 1:53 2/5, which would mean he broke yet another record. -He broke yet another record at the Belmont Stakes. He ran a 2:24 race.
