Observation Day
This is the day that everybody observes all the items on the table and write them on a piece of paper. -
Dig Day
Today we dig. We are going to dig holes and put the items we obverved in the holes. At the end of the year we will dig up the items and see how they changed over time. -
Diggin' time
Now, we get down to business. Its diggin' time. we are diggng big holes to put stuff in. -
The final resting place
This is when we bury our items. In 9 weeks we will dig them up and see how they decomposted -
week 1: weather
Now we start observing the weather. This weeks avg. temperature is 23.8 degrees. It snowed one day this but melted awayin about 20 minutes. It was sunny this week. -
Week 1 problem
The items haven't decomposed a lot. I believe that the apple has decomposted the most, about 12%. And the orange about 11%. The styrofoam about 10%. The paper about 9%. The sun Chips bag about 9%. The foil about 8%. The regular chips bag about 7%. And last, the cotton fabric 1%.The materials and equipment we used for this project are: a shovel, ree bars, slegde hammer, stakes, dirt, time, temperature, precipitation, and police tape. -
Week 1: styrofoam
The styrofoam was unburied march 6th, 2011. It was broken and looked like it shrunk. -
Week 2: weather
This is week 2. The avg. temperature for week 2 is 32.7 degrees. It was windy this week. This was sunny. Not much precipitation -
Week 2:Aluminum foil
The aluminum foil was unburied march 6th, 2011. It was ripped a little, it didn't decompose that much. -
Week 3: weather
This is week 3. The avg. temperature for this week is 45.6 degrees. the avg wind speed is 8.6 mph. This week was windy. Again, not much precipitation. -
Week 3:Sunchips bag
The sun chips bag was unburied March 6th, 2011. It was ripped in half. It decomposed a little. -
Week 4: weather
The temperature for this week is in the 30s or low 40s. This week was partly cloudy and sunny most of the week. The average precipitation was .24 inches. -
Week 4: regular chips bag
The regular chips bag was unburied March 6th, 2011. It was torn, but not decomposed. -
Week 5: weather
The weather for this week reached from the 30s to the low 60s. The average temperature is .30 inches. This week was mostly sunny. It snowed tuesday and wednesday. -

The apple decompsed the most. It was unburied March 6th, 2011. -
